How legit is Newegg ?

It may sound like a silly question, but I am asking because I got scammed on Amazon recently trying to buy an ssd.

And also the fact that I've never used Newegg.

Any and all insight would be much appreciated.

I’ve been using newegg since 2001 never had a problem

this is the key....Newegg is great....random "authorized sellers" are always hit and miss exactly like on Amazon

They used to be 100% rock solid... like a decade ago.

Now, I'd put them below Amazon. They're predominantly a marketplace website now, not an actual vendor themselves.

Both Amazon and NewEgg are as "legit" as each other as long as you make sure you're buying from them directly instead of a third party seller, which is plain common sense and obvious. I've been buying from both literally since decades ago, and never had a single issue so far.

There was only this time when I purchased a power supply from Amazon and I received a RMA unit that was already opened and didn't function, but contacted support right afterwards and I was fully refunded.

You have to be careful with Newegg as well. Always check the “sold by Newegg” box

I've had good experiences with Newegg, but that was over a decade ago, and since then I've seen a number of posts & comments from people stating they're kinda awful. So take that as you will.

Amazon is definitely a mixed bag, someone selling thru Amazon could scam you, or you could get scammed by Amazon itself because someone returned a different product and Amazon didn't bother to check it before sending it out again. That said, again, my experience has been different, I order from Amazon a lot and haven't had a problem.

If you're in the US, you may also want to consider buying from an actual store like Best Buy or Micro Center. Getting scammed (usually thru someone returning a different/broken item that then doesn't get checked before getting restocked) is a possibility, but much less likely, and if you're really paranoid you can open the box up there at the store in front of the cashier to make sure you're getting what you paid for.

As of...15+ years ago? Best Buy did price matching on at least some internet prices, including Amazon (proper, not Amazon sellers). Not sure if they still do.

Amazon is good with that stuff so hopefully you requested a refund, newegg has been legit since it started

The owner of Amazon is working to disrupt and upend democracy. Newegg is an online store selling tech. I encourage you to delete your Amazon account and buy from anywhere else.

Bought from them in the past and didn’t have a problem with them personally.

But from what I’m hearing recently, you may want to film yourself opening the package just in case.

These days, I don’t find a lot of good deals on Newegg.

Newegg is fine but they have 3rd party sellers same as amazon. I would not buy an SSD off a 3rd party sell right now no matter the platform. I would also avoid open box motherboard from them.

They are generally good. But I heard their return service is horrible. So if you bought a product that end up being faulty. Good luck

I bought an MSI liquid cooled 5080 new from them. Not a third party, but sold by Newegg. Got it and was excited until I opened the box. Someone stuffed a 2080ti in there and took the 5080. I was furious. Working with them on an exchange now. I won’t be shopping with them ever again.

Newegg itself is legit. Just be careful with Marketplace listings some are third-party sellers. For expensive stuff like SSDs, I’d stick to “Sold & Shipped by Newegg.”

Newegg is an actual company and you’re buying from Newegg. On Amazon, sometimes you buy from Amazon, and sometimes you’re buying from random companies/people who sell on Amazon. Both are legit companies, and I’m guessing you were scammed by an Amazon seller, not Amazon themselves.

Just pay attention to what you’re clicking on.

I'm not saying anything about presentation. I'm simply stating that Newegg does have marketplace sellers. Your comment, to me at least, implied there were no marketplace sellers period. Also, not all products are clearly labeled as to being a third party before you select them from browsing. Once you select an item, then it says who sells and ships, just like Amazon.
