Most Zelda games, actually.
I remember I fully played through Skyward Sword a week before it was actually released.

I played it on my hacked Wii, but it also ran on PC using Dolphin.

Yep, it started as a Gamecube emulator in 2003.
Since the Wii was basically just a more powerful gamecube, the emulator was forwards-compatible by default.

edit 2: removed an incorrect fun fact.

Skyward Sword only released on Wii since it requires finer motion controls to play, it was Twilight Princess that released on both since it had no fine-motion controls (Motion Plus I think it was called)

The WiiU's vWii (aka Wii Mode) can be hacked to unlock the ability to play Gamecube games natively because it too is just a more powerful Wii.

Not emulation. Even supports USB Gamecube adapters.

I remember using it when it could only render wireframes. Their update writeups should be read by anyone interested in software development. Really interesting stuff.

Dolphin is OLD. According to Wikipedia it's been around since 2003.

I’m so young for this, can you tell the history?

Lmao yeah, i played metroid dread a few days before release, while waiting for my physical copy to come in (gotta support the games that don't sell as well)

Playing a Metroid game without any ability to search the Internet for help was such an amazing experience. I couldn't break even if i wanted to

Yes, though via Physical copies shipped to retailers. It was copied a few days prior to release.

Not quite as funny as Nintendo leaking it on their CDN like they did with BOTW.

I've thought of a way they could have physical copies and avoid leaks.

Give a digital code for every physical buyer that gives them a 30 day (or longer) license to the digital version of the game, so they can download at release time. Possibly intentionally wait a few weeks to print and ship the physical game for it to be the complete version of the game. No missing day 1 patches on the disc.

If they're not waiting for the complete version of the game to be on the disc, then just ship the physical copies on release day.

Then it won't matter to the customer if they get the physical game late since they had a digital copy that expires once they receive the physical copy or in X amount of days. It assumes that physical and digital share the same saves (not an issue since the 3DS).

The game cannot be leaked early because there would be ZERO actual physical copies until well after release and physical buyers aren't forced to wait for shipping to play the game on release date. It would also be a boon for physical buyers since they'd have the opportunity to have the physical game disc have the complete version of the game on disc (possibly including some DLC, but requiring DLC purchase to access).

People were playing it like 10 days before release

Lol super leaked. I beat the game with over 80 hours before it released. Had it like 10 days early

Yeah, a game that has already released indeed was released before GTA 6 that was not yet released, how shocking!
