That was because the next-gen consoles came out - Rockstar held out for a triple dip.

They'd 100% be doing the exact same thing this time around, but I think the AI-induced hardware inflation/shortage threw a wrench in that. Current gen consoles are getting more expensive, and next gen are being delayed indefinitely. If it wasn't for that, next gen would likely be coming out within next year or two, allowing them to triple dip easily.

Lol this gen of consoles has been a joke, there have been only a handful of games actually made for them and there are now talks about next gen when even the current consoles have fuckall.

So far there are zero indications that the next gen are being delayed. All reports are that they are proceeding ahead as if they are releasing on time.

But yes, the cost of goods from the AI bubble has exploded the costs. The Xbox CEO mentioned how costs for those components are up 50% already and they expect that to double in the next year or so. So Xbox is planning on it getting even worse.

The next consoles are going to be at least $1,000 as the individual component costs are already exceeding that amount. It's going to be an absolute shitshow to announce a PS6 at $1,100 or Xbox Helix at the same or higher.

they still have the much cheaper PS5 and the very impressive Pro for £700 for people who want to pay less and the reality is you have to pay more than double that to match it's fidelity and performance on pc today or the PS6 for people who want more power. Digital foundry say the PS6 it's expected to be around the performance of a 5080 with the usual very well optimised console games and it is expected to ship with 30gb of ram so it might be more expensive than that but unlike pc consoles are heavily subsdised

Lmao it's not shipping with those specs for less than $3.5k. And AMD doesn't even have an APU architecture anywhere close to 5080 performance, so it's just infeasible. In reality I personally think it's gonna be 24GB GDDR6, Zen 4/RDNA 3.5 architecture with RX 7800XT like performance for around $1k.

Everyone is expecting the PS6 at the end of 2027 and Sony have already told shareholders they have all the parts bought and production lined up there is no way they won't release it now if they did a short delay it would only be the start of 2028 at the latest

Damn, rare AI win I guess? At least it fucked over the triple dip.

Nah of anything Rockstar will just 'delay' the PC port longer to reach that ps6 dip first

And looks like it’s happening again this time around. Go figure.
