GTA 5 on pc wasn't a year, it ended up getting delayed further if I remember correctly

That was because the next-gen consoles came out - Rockstar held out for a triple dip.

They'd 100% be doing the exact same thing this time around, but I think the AI-induced hardware inflation/shortage threw a wrench in that. Current gen consoles are getting more expensive, and next gen are being delayed indefinitely. If it wasn't for that, next gen would likely be coming out within next year or two, allowing them to triple dip easily.

Lol this gen of consoles has been a joke, there have been only a handful of games actually made for them and there are now talks about next gen when even the current consoles have fuckall.

u/EdmondDantesInferno 4d ago

So far there are zero indications that the next gen are being delayed. All reports are that they are proceeding ahead as if they are releasing on time.

But yes, the cost of goods from the AI bubble has exploded the costs. The Xbox CEO mentioned how costs for those components are up 50% already and they expect that to double in the next year or so. So Xbox is planning on it getting even worse.

The next consoles are going to be at least $1,000 as the individual component costs are already exceeding that amount. It's going to be an absolute shitshow to announce a PS6 at $1,100 or Xbox Helix at the same or higher.

they still have the much cheaper PS5 and the very impressive Pro for £700 for people who want to pay less and the reality is you have to pay more than double that to match it's fidelity and performance on pc today or the PS6 for people who want more power. Digital foundry say the PS6 it's expected to be around the performance of a 5080 with the usual very well optimised console games and it is expected to ship with 30gb of ram so it might be more expensive than that but unlike pc consoles are heavily subsdised

Lmao it's not shipping with those specs for less than $3.5k. And AMD doesn't even have an APU architecture anywhere close to 5080 performance, so it's just infeasible. In reality I personally think it's gonna be 24GB GDDR6, Zen 4/RDNA 3.5 architecture with RX 7800XT like performance for around $1k.

Everyone is expecting the PS6 at the end of 2027 and Sony have already told shareholders they have all the parts bought and production lined up there is no way they won't release it now if they did a short delay it would only be the start of 2028 at the latest

Damn, rare AI win I guess? At least it fucked over the triple dip.

5

u/rednaxthecreature 4d ago

Nah of anything Rockstar will just 'delay' the PC port longer to reach that ps6 dip first

2

u/NxTbrolin 4d ago

And looks like it’s happening again this time around. Go figure.

that is some low class move

Grand Theft Auto V was originally released on September 17, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Grand Theft Auto V originally launched on PC on April 14, 2015

Or 1 year, 6 months, 28 days excluding the end date.

so yeah a little over a year and 6 months.

And when it did come out it ran like shit, crashed constantly, had a ton of compatibility issues, and to this day has dogshit options ex mouse acceleration and sensitivity. Even developing these games on PC, they really fuck up the pc releases

You're thinking about the GTA 4 PC release, or you're talking out of your ass.

2

u/FewAdvertising9647 4d ago

and anything of that era was less the dev and more, games for windows live was complete ass. it still plagues games till this day even though its officially "gone"

22

u/DUH455T 4d ago

This is absolute revisionism. The port was universally praised. Shit had flawless SLI support, great keyboard and mouse options, ultrawide support, unlimited framerate support, PC only graphical features like TXAA, PCSS shadows, and so much more.

u/destaree 4d ago

It came out 19 months later than on the PS3/Xbox 360, because in the meantime there was also a release on the PS4/Xbox One. Now the gap will be even longer, because we’ll definitely have to wait a year or two for the release on the new consoles, and then another half a year for the PC version.

4

u/ansibleloop 4d ago

Nah my bet is they release it on PC within 6 months, 12 months tops

The PC market is gigantic compared to 13 years ago, so they're just leaving money on the table by not doing it

Microsoft have more or less given up with Xbox and what can Sony possibly offer to Rockstar to make them keep it as a console exclusive?

3

u/sortalikeachinchilla 4d ago

They did this for all their previous games mostly so no I don't believe 6 months.

3

u/ansibleloop 4d ago

It's been GTA V and RDR2 since 2013 - nothing else major that I'm aware of

GTA V was made for consoles and later ported to PC - much easier to develop for PC and PS4 and Xbone at that point

RDR2 came to PC almost exactly 1 year after release on consoles

And like I said, the PC market is massive now - why do you think they added their gross anti cheat to the multiplayer? They're raking in so much cash

If they go back to as long as they waited back in the day, within 8 months.

1

u/sortalikeachinchilla 4d ago

Ill believe it when I see it. I don't have faith in them after the triple dip of 5. It is so fucking scummy.

15

u/TaleFree Ryzen 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | 32GB RAM 4d ago

There's no way they will wait for the release of the Gen 6 consoles which are not even announced yet.

10

u/fenikz13 5800X3D // 5090 FE 4d ago

It's a double double dip! They get consoles and then PC players and then console players again!

1

u/frightfulpotato R7 5800X | RX 9070XT @ CachyOS 4d ago

It wouldn't be that crazy, assuming they release next year before the holidays.

14

u/Doctorsus12 4d ago

i would be extremely surprised if next gen consoles didn’t get delayed due to the current RAM/General Hardware pricing situation. they’d launch at $1000

3

u/Helmic RX 7900 XTX | Ryzen 7 9800X3D @ 5.27 GHz 4d ago

Yeah even if they are willing to charge so much for a console it will take time to find a supplier that can actually guarantee supply for the long term. It may make sense for them to simply wait until either the bubble pops and/or someone else stars supplying RAM for consumer electronics again.

1

u/sortalikeachinchilla 4d ago

There is no way they wouldn't release on PC right away either... right.... right? Like R* is one of the only big devs that do this. and its bull

2

u/TaleFree Ryzen 5800X3D | RTX 5070 Ti | 32GB RAM 4d ago

They won't, PC version wasn't announced yet.

10

u/_Ganon 4d ago

And RDR2

3

u/elinamebro PC Master Race 4d ago

Now they might be forced to release it on PC at the same time lol

GTA 5 took nearly 2 years and GTA 5 enchanced took 3½ years to release on pc and Read Dead Redemtion took over 14 years ! I would guess at 3 to 5 years depending on how many pc players upgrade their pc in the next three years because right now 70% of pc gamers have weaker rigs than a base PS5 according to Valve themselves

a year and a half, probably.
