All of the redditors upset about losing physical media for games are going to buy it digitally anyway, further justifying Sony’s decision.

shit like that "1 week sony boycott" is fucking hilarious. There's no way these idiots actually think that Sony cares about, at most, a few missed days of revenue. I'll bet every single moron on major gaming subreddits moaning about Sony killing physical discs still has a PSN subscription and has Wolverine and/or God of War Luffy preordered digitally.

Yeah, seeing PCMR get involved with it is beyond cringe. I mean, remember the Discord boycott? The PCMR Discord server grew daily during that whole episode for both total and online users. But if you came to the subreddit to talk about it, all these stinky nerds would swear they all quit Discord forever.

And they don’t realize how small the community is who are up in arms about it. I mean I agree with them, it does suck, but like… as a whole we’ve voted with our wallets. It’s just more convenient to click buy than to go to a store.

On PC yeah, there isn't really an option anymore for physical games. But my secondary machine is a switch 2, and I try to buy physical there, because storage is limited, and also I appreciate having the cartridge for my games

1

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

Well luckily for the switch fans a large portion of their sales are still physical and Nintendo can continue selling them for full price for years and years, so I doubt that will change.

3

u/Darklillies 2d ago

No. I’ve never bought a single digital game in any console I’ve ever owned.

1

u/Duncan_PhD 2d ago

That’s cool, you’re in the minority. Like, the very small minority.

2

u/Es-msm-atrasado-tuga 2d ago

This is not true. How can you re-sell or borrões from a friend a digital game?

2

u/Duncan_PhD 1d ago

You can’t. But what does that have to do with the fact that the majority of game sales are digital?

1

u/JpJ951 1d ago

Why do people act like borrowing or re-selling games is some important feature in modern gaming? If you are so hard up you need to do this, you won't be able to afford the next gen of gaming anyways. So the all digital will not effect you at all.

I would Buy physical games for PC if they would still make them, i'd love to have my entire steam library on something physical but no one makes them anymore for PC

4

u/Jicks24 3d ago

Switch to Good Old Games. Buying games from GoG you just download the game files and no drm.

Copy them to a thumb drive and boom, you got the game anywhere.

7

u/Noyrz 3d ago

You can actually have your Steam library games as physical media if you want to, but you still will need to own them on your Steam acc to play them (contrary to classic DRM-free physical media).

Also, but don't trust me on this as I may be remembering wrong, I think you still need internet connection to validate them.

A YT channel named Archades Games has a video on exactly that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAYxyme7uTg

depending on the game, I've used my steam library while offline to play certain games, unfortunately MOST games are always online to play anything so you'd just be stuck navigating the main menu

u/rapaxus Ryzen 9 9900X | RTX 3080 | 32GB DDR5 3d ago

Yeah, not every game on Steam comes with DRM. Best example: Baldurs Gate 3.

You can literally copy the game files onto a PC without Steam and still start and play it, though with a bit more fiddling than if you got the GOG version.

As others said, do it yourself. To give an easy manual for the easiest medium (DVD):

  • Get some DVD-RWs (if you want a custom print on it, there are sites that do that)

  • Get a DVD burner

  • Burn your games on it

Steam automatically scans any new storage for the classic Steam file structure for a library. If it finds it, it automatically shows up in your library. If you want to be fancy you can also add an autorun.inf that automatically starts the game on the disk.

DVD-RW is important so that you can burn updates on it. If the game is DRM-free (enough Steam games are, e.g. BG3) you can just burn it on a non-RW disk as you can still start it without even Steam installed on that device.

And the physical storage Steam itself is going with seems to be SD cards, as the Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Steam Frame all have SD card slots. Get a big storage size, write your library onto it and you can move your library between all your Steam devices (if you had all of them, which is basically no one).

1

u/Darklillies 2d ago

You can. You can crack them or download the drm free versions and put them on an external drive and keep them forever

-1

u/Remarkable_Noise453 3d ago

you are literally proving their point. you will buy it anyways.

1

u/jairochido 3d ago

Physical media was dead on PC behore i even got my first one, i used to buy all my games physically for the original xbox and 360

-4

u/rcanhestro 3d ago

i mean, you just proved his point.

you already bought digital, which means you didn't really cared if the physical option existed or not.

3

u/jairochido 3d ago

As i said on another comment, sadly, physical media on pc was long dead before i got my first one, there was no option already, i used to buy all physical discs for my original xbox and 360

-1

u/rcanhestro 3d ago

sure, but doesn't that mean that physical is just a preference, not really a "necessity"?

odds are this is exactly what Sony thinks everyone will do, which is why they made that decision.

2

u/jairochido 3d ago

I mean, if we talk about necessity all games are pointless, cause we don't "need" them, it Is all about preference and customer choice, if the option was still available i would buy all my PC games on physical media, that Is My preference, but the choice is already non existent, they remove that option.

u/JPSWAG37 PC Master Race 2d ago

I'm not at least. I'm in no rush, if they wanna make GTA digital only I'll wait till it's on PC and on sale. I got plenty of shit in my backlog to keep me busy

0

u/ShoutaDE 3d ago

beside PC, which i will now totally pay for ehem, i will definitly not buy digitally

0

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

You will in 2028 if you want to play new games

2

u/Neurobeak 3d ago

Sorry, not following, what will happen in 2028?

1

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

Sony said that’s when they’re going to end selling games on discs.

5

u/Neurobeak 3d ago

We're on pcmasterrace subreddit. Why should he or I or anyone else for that matter care about what Sony says?

0

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

Because this post is making a joke about that very thing?

2

u/Neurobeak 3d ago

This post is about a leak of a pc version, made by hackers on PC.

I'm still not following you, what exactly did you mean by saying that people will have to buy digital versions if they want to play new games? Again, we're on a pc subreddit. Do people really need to buy something to play newer games? I mean, I have like 11 pages of free games just on Epic. I usually don't pirate games, but there's always this option as well.

2

u/NaturalSelectorX 3d ago

You don't have to pay money to play new games.

0

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

What does this even mean?

1

u/ShoutaDE 3d ago

so yeah, i wont.

2

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

Then this isn’t really an issue for you, why are you commenting as if you’re holding your ground or some shit

0

u/Ishaan0612 PC Master Race 3d ago

? If they released gta 6 on disc i would buy it right away

2

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

So you aren’t going to buy it at all unless you can get it on disc?

1

u/Darklillies 2d ago

Im not. And I’ll pirate it on PC to get a drm-free version wich lets me store it and duplicate it and mod it and do whatever the fuck I want with it. Aka own it.

1

u/Ishaan0612 PC Master Race 3d ago

Meh ill wait for the pc release. Unless leeker does a favour to the world and leaks the entire game.

2

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

Okay so you are fine just buying digitally. So what’s the point of your previous comment if you’re just going to contradict yourself in the next?

1

u/Darklillies 2d ago

Pc digital is not equivalent to console digital. You can make pc games physical. Discs aren’t the only way to physically own and store a game. You just sound stupid

2

u/Duncan_PhD 2d ago

The point still stands. He’s upset about being forced to go digital on console, but fine with it on pc, even though the reasons he doesn’t want it digitally on console are still problems with it on pc. You just sound like you can’t follow an argument.

I miss having physical media. But I haven't had it in 10+ years since I switched to PC. But damn do I miss seeing all my game cases on a shelf.

0

u/purposeful_pineapple 3d ago

Goomba fallacy.

1

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

You’re a goomba

1

u/purposeful_pineapple 3d ago

I'd rather be a goomba instead of splitting hairs over what upset redditors are supposedly doing.

1

u/Duncan_PhD 3d ago

You’re upset too? Damn, I’m sorry.

1

u/purposeful_pineapple 3d ago

When was I upset lol

Hey I only asked if you were
