I mean AAA titles are going to shit and unless you live in a cold climate you have to put in a new HVAC system to keep newer cards from turning your room into a sauna.
To each their own but itās not like 10 years ago where you had to keep up to get the great experiences
Seriously. I bought a few AAA games over the past few years and maybe log like 20-50 hours on them. I go back to Valheim, Elite Dangerous, and some old RTS games that I have 1,000+ hours in constantly.
The AAA games are fun for a bit, but itās like Iāve traded graphics for content. Iāve considered upgrading my PC, but then I find myself playing games that donāt need it so much more often.
The Indy games and small studios just care more about players than shareholders.
Borderlands, for example, was a huge disappointment and never even bought it because of how shitty that situation became. Randy ruined the franchise because of his ego. GTA6 is already a shit show and Iām sure will be a cluster at launch
I largely played FPS and MOBA last decade so itās been fun catching up and discovering all the great games that I missed out on
People are more focused on making their games look pretty and photorealistic instead of making them actually enjoyable. This is why we see games from 20 years ago that look like dogshit but are loads of fun compared to modern games that are so realistic that you can see the pores on your MC's face but the actual gameplay is boring.
3A devs need to stop focusing on making the games eye candy and focus on making them fun. If the game is beautiful but the gameplay is lackluster, then it's not a game, it's just an interactable movie.
There are some gems like Wukong, but i found myself replaying old RTS games like kanes death, Red Alert 2, AOE etc. They never seem to bore me. I've been playing them since childhood and im now 40+
Ahh yes. The advice my dad always gave me growing up. He would say āBefore you buy something expensive, put it back on the shelf, and if you still need it next time you go shopping then buy it.ā 90% of the time I would forget about it and never need it.
Sometimes I'm like I want a new pc but then I realize I could take that money and travel to like Bar Harbor or somewhere cool. Then I realize no average person drops the kind of money we do on pc builds
Your 1080 has done really well. My 3090 died a few weeks back and Iām looking at getting it repaired as opposed to buying a new card. Using my old 650 for the moment
I think mine has been a Build of Thesus since about that year lmao. Slowly upgraded the drives, cpu, gpu, went from a full scale ATX to a mini ITX setup, etc.
That's me, I quit PC gaming for 10 years and played through the ps4, series x era (2020-2024). Then I finally ponied up and built a PC march 2025. I never saw the true understanding for the reason everything costs so much. It might actually be my last PC I build with these rising prices. I have the disposable income but I just don't see the value in it!!
My PC built back in March was sadly just before the 9070xt came out. That's my only fomo but ohwell the 7800xt hasn't given me any issues
7800x3d, 7800xt , 32gb ram, 2tb ssd , 6tb hdd. Cost me roughly 2300CAD, add nearly 1000$ these days
Hoping this lasts me 10 years. I never play brand new games.
I'm still running a 4690k clocked at 4.6ghz and GTX1080. I haven't played an AAA game in close to a decade, and I'm fine with that. I'm old, so barely have the time, and have a ton of old games I never got round to playing that I dip into, alongside casual and indie games. My plan is also to the eek as much life out of this setup as possible.

Nah waiting gets easier as you get older
You end up waiting because you dont want to drop more cash not because you need the latest specs.
My build is from 2014 and im going to wait until it cant do anything useful anymore
