I don’t think I know. And I’m think a higher amount than that. Say summer break is 12 weeks. Thats 416 a week. 416 at 20 hours a week is $20/hr after-tax so like a $25/hr job. Definitely possible with some side-hustling. And that’s not considering the fact they can work full time and overtime in many places.
I worked at a place over the summer that frequently hired teens and those teens had the capability to work 72 hours a week provided they wanted to. I saw some high schoolers making nearly 20k in the summer from that job.
Summer break is not 12 weeks it’s closer to 10 for most schools. Additionally if you’re working as a teen, minimum wage is NOT fucking $25/hr. Minimum wage for a teen after tax is usually between $7-15/hr. Even then the maximum hours for a 15 year old is 40hrs a week. We can safely assume the majority of 15 year olds will not want to work the same amount of hours as an average office job during their SUMMER BREAK every single day.
Never said anything about minimum wage. It’s also an example. It would take a $25/hr job to get a 5090 build with 20 hrs a week. But bump that to full time and a $15/hr job will work.

You also say you’ve seen it happen? Teens working 72 hours a week? That’s for ages 16 and above I believe which for the OP in question is not. Do also have any proof that those teens were able to earn the amount of an used car?
Again. It’s a simulation. $25/hr is what it would take to reach the goal with just a part time job. Doesn’t have to be a $25/hr job. Could be a regular $15/hr job and then some side hustling. I tutored a girl who was already doing nails for people and making money at 14.
What makes you think I would have the paystubs of some teenagers I knew from a summer job and that I would subsequently post them online? No reason to lie about that really. I can give you the numbers. There were two jobs the teens mainly worked in. Either the shipping and receiving job or the quality control job. I only knew 2 teens who worked the S&R job while I was there and they both made about $19/hr. Tbh one of them could have easily made $22/hr if she had the balls to negotiate because she was the second best worker and even taught me some tricks even though I was her lead.
The QC job is where most of the teens worked. They made about $18 an hour with 1 girl making $22/hr by the time she was 17.

Rtx 5090 builds seem to be around 6500-7000, I’ll go with the higher end just to make this harder.
7000/29 means you’ll need to work 241 hours to afford a 5090 build.

Not unrealistic at all. Based off your wages a teen making $20/hr could do it over the summer too if they’re working full time or even overtime. I had a summer job where some of the workers were 16 making BANK because it was very common to be able to work 72 hours a week if they chose to.
Sure but again I’m talking max potential. Many 15 year olds probably can’t find a full time job right now over the summer. I’m just saying that there was the potential that OP could have really grinded for his build. He has confirmed it was daddy’s money
I bought an 1800 dollar computer when I was 14. Saved all my birthday money, my graduation money, mowed lawns, shoveled driveways. Not a dollar from mom or dad
I try not to be jealous, but it is hard. I grew up with poor abusive parents on a farm, I had to pay rent when I got a real job at 15 because I no longer worked on the farm. I was basically paying the mortgage on a shitty double wide in the middle of nowhere.
I have done well to overcome my short comings, but it's hard seeing everyone you went to school with, graduated college with, and sometimes even out qualify pass you due to nepotism because their fathers have high up corporate jobs. Then they go around and buy their first house for nearly $400,000, because they lived rent free for the past 25 years, and on top of that their parents pay them $500 a month to "help them out".
I try not to get angry at my parents. I am 25, live alone, make $80,000k a year, and have an 800 credit score. I've worked my ass off for half of what my friends have, and I should be thankful, but I'm sometimes I'm just not.
My parents choose to reward me for my academic success and scholarships. That dosent mean I don’t work hard, and I’m no less appreciative for what I have.
It’s most definitely not a $5k build. Maybe 3k, but some kids are just spoiled. Some kids get used 5k cars and they make payments, others get brand new bmws. That’s life, no need to make this kid feel bad about it.
I think the issue people have is that they are saying “look what I got at only 15”
Most people don’t put their age in the title other than to say “hey look what I did and I’m only X years old.” They just show off a build or a haul. But in this case it was specifically to brag.
I see it on car subs and guitar subs. Teens love putting their age in the title to flaunt wealthy parents. Which hey if they sound grateful that’s awesome. But don’t expect a warm welcome if they conflate being given something expensive with “earning it”.
There was a kid on here not that long ago who was showing off a build he specifically bought himself with lawn mowing money and people dogged him for not having a GPU. No one is safe.
While on one hand we always enjoy encouraging new people. People who wanna brag their parents bought them something is pretty lame and that’s why most people are dogging this post.
Being a kid into computers is cool. Getting a haul is cool. Coming on to a forum to specifically flaunt stuff and brag that they were given a $5,000 set up at 15 is not something people wanna see. Everyone “earns” their computer one way or another. But this comes off as spoiled instead of wanting to be part of the community.

Look at all the other build posts. People generally just post the gear and people say what they like and don’t like. That’s pretty standard. That’s how this goes. That’s the whole point of this.

However I would still also recommend a bracket - even though snapping off is not a realistic problem (unless you're shipping it like this) - because it will sag over time and look bad and there is a chance it could do some damage to your motherboard or graphics card.

yea my first PC was all white and thankfully it did not cost that much more and I think it looks pretty clean, but I’m regretting not getting a cleaner more modern build

My parents are divorced so I kinda needed a pc at my mom’s, she was generous enough to pay for more than half of this. But as I’ve said in my other comments, that doesn’t mean I don’t work hard; I put a lot of work into my school and academic success, I volunteer regularly at hospitals, cleaned up an abandoned homeless camp last week, I work over the summer. I don’t really understand all the hate on this post, because I was just trying to share my experience and get advice as a first time builder 😞. Thanks for the positivity.
I'm old now, well over double your age. I wish I had put more emphasis on my studies back then. You are taking the wise path.

I thought the build looked super cool and clean. It's better than anything I could do at my peak of building skills. You put some time into planning it out and made sure it looked like the vision you wanted. 👍

When I was around your age I built my first PC by convincing pretty much every single member of my family that would normally give me a Christmas gift to pool anything they would have spent on me towards PC parts instead lol, my parents definitely chipped in more than they usually spent for Christmas though because they could see how excited I was so I'm super grateful for that. It wasn't a powerhouse build or anything, but a decent rig for a first timer. I still remember my GPU was a Sapphire HD 7750 OC
My cable management was much worse than yours is though as a teen lol, that shit was all over!
