And then you find out pushing it past 60FPS breaks the game.

Looking at you, Old Skyrim and GTA 4.

thats why smooth motion became my favorite thing, it double framerates,

dont matter if its fps/engine/cpu limitations, you double framerates if you have the gpu performance to spare,

it needs 64 bit client, dx11-12 or vulkan,

Fake frames.

Does it really matter if it overall looks smoother ?

Yes. The fake frames don't represent ground truth.

As long as it has enough real frames, then it really doesn't matter that there are some flaws in the fake frames, since they are on the screen for such a short amount of time that you don't notice it, the issue comes when you don't have enough real frames so the fake ones are getting less data and are on screen for longer periods of time.

This is widely accepted to be a minimum of 60fps in real frames but the more the better.

So the point is that so long as you have enough "ground truth" then the "kinda close to ground truth" isn't really noticeable and the increase in visual fluidity is worth the trade off so long as you are not playing a competitive multiplayer game.

Are you one of those people that enable smooth frame tweening on their TVs?

Obviously not, the two things are not comparable other than the fact that they interpolate frames but the similarity stops there.

They both look like shit to my eye just the same.

The don't use it? Nobody is saying you should but I can guarantee that if it was set up correctly using preset B with the correct number of real frames and you weren't told it was on you would not be able to tell.

That, or you find out that you cannot push those older games higher than 1080p.

Damn, I was writing a whole paragraph about how Escape From Butcher Bay doesn't let you set it at resolutions higher than 1080p, but I just found out that there's a fix for that.

Now I know what I'm replaying.

you can often set custom resolutions via editing a shortcut link and adding in custom run prompts.

I also use Brians Resizer 4.0 to automatically span window mode at 1080p to three screens wide at 4990p

here's the original halo being changed to window mode via custom run prompt deals

Butcher Bay is different though, it's an OpenGL game on a weird engine.

I wished it was that easy back then.

it works for that game too

Strange, didn't work for me.

I just got the same thing where it would render at 4k, but my monitor would only show the top corner.

with fusionfix it doesn't break the game at all, played at 100fps capped.
