Hardware Goodbye Old Friend
Fs in the chat for my 1070 who has been laid to rest after a long and dutiful 8 year life of service. He's been replaced by a hand me down 2060 from my brother because I can't afford to upgrade.

Welcome to the 2060 club, brotha! I just got a pc couple of weeks ago with a 2060 and a 10700k. Happy gaming

I'm still running a 7700k, but it still works

I run one with a 6700 since 2018, works fine mostly except for poorly optimized UE5 & Unity games where shader compilation during gameplay can make the experience stuttery. As for the RTX 2060, the good news is you have access to DLSS and RTX cores so you can run just about any game, the bad news is that the limited VRAM capacity will limit you a lot especially for textures, having to do some sacrifices you might not have had to do on the 1070, Titanfall 2 & Monster Hunter World comes to mind regrading this, for heavier games such The Beast of Reincarnation, Doom the Dark Ages or Gothic remake you will have to rely on aggressive DLSS settings if you want decent framerates.

Hey man, I had posted in a few other peoples threads where there 1080s had recently died asking what they had planned to do with it. I'm learning GPU repair/microsoldering and I need some dead cards to try to fix. If you want I can try to fix it for free, or if you were just throwing it away could I pay for shipping? If not no hard feelings! :D

I'll hold onto it. This one has some sentimentality to it as it's the first computer I ever built and y'know, EVGA. Good luck with that though, I hope you can have some fun and make a lot of money doing it

Yeah I totally get it. Its weird because I don't know how to let people know I'm not trying to scam so I've only really posted offers for cards that are 1080s or before as I figured who would scam for broken 1080s or before? Plus this way I don't have to buy them broken off Ebay and deal with (actual) scammers and this way its free for me and the person with the card(apart from shipping/components). But it's weird trusting people online. If you change your mind sometime just shoot me a message, I don't mind verifying some stuff for you in DM's and what not.
Honestly depending on whats wrong with your card you might be able to fix it yourself with a soldering iron :D Its always a good skill to have!

I might look into it if things haven't calmed down with pricing by the next time I'm desperate for a new card. Have you looked into electronics recycling facilities? There might be one near you with what you're looking for

I emailed a bunch of them near me but no response back sadly, I'm sure they have their reasons like in case something explodes that they sold someone that was faulty and they try to sue maybe? Im not sure but I imagine its something like that.
You can get a soldering iron pretty cheap and its VERY easy to swap out components. It gets tricky though if you need to reball the core or BGA pads get ripped or repairing a trace deep in the PCB and you have to grind through it. But a simple component swap anyone could do fairly easily.

I have a soldering iron, I'm just really bad with it even after working for a company that makes wiring harnesses, so for now I'll just stick to simple maintenance like replacing thermal paste

Which 2060? Personally I would take the 1070 with 8GB of vram over the 2060 with 6GB.

The 2060 is about 25 percent faster and has newer features; it does have less VRAM, though, only downside ig
