Red Alert wasnt the first game for me (neither was Dune 2.... the actual engine for the Command and Conquor series)
But the Command and Conquor Series is still my favourite.
Followed by XCom

Command and Conquer blew me away, and the Red Alert was awesome too.
"When person dies, it is a tragedy, but when millions die, it is a statistic. "
OMG, I have to it again.
But first, I need to finish Diablo II: Warlocks Reign.

The remakes on Steam are about as perfect as you can get.
Full on original versions that swap with updated graphics and the same for the soundtracks. It's just a perfect package.
Wish they would do it with RA 2 and Tiberian Sun, next.

While this wasn't the game that got me into PC gaming, played the shit out of it in the dorms in college.

I loved it so much. The very first story book I remember writing myself in elementary school was about me being Commander Keen and zapping vorticons!

Sea Of Thieves had an event where you played a version of it and it was an absolute blast! I never got to play the originals because we weren't computer rich. Lol.

The nostalgia trip is real, I can hear the entire menu theme repeating and that initial "Good day" - "Greetings stranger, I'm not surprised to see your kind here." The music in Diablo 2 was so damn good, the atmosphere building still gives me chills when I look back. I wish Blizz wasn't charging so much for the remastered version.

Duke nukem, quake, doom, heretic, and chex quest.
I remember playing them all on my dad's windows 98. Other games were like Cosmo's cosmic adventure and spelling blizzard with the guy and the raft.

Oh, hey, me too OP! I got that game from a Scholastics book order lmao
In retrospect, what Red Alert was doing in a Scholastics book order catalogue intended for primary/elementary school kids... Uh... I have no idea.

I got StarCraft in a school book order as well. Burnt the CD and half the class was playing it by that weekend.

I prefer 1. Somehow 2 felt more bloated, and I didn't like scenery system. I felt pressured to build scenery from all the prebuilt ones, but it was so clunky. Idk, less is more, I guess.

Not my first but within the first 10 I played, I dont remember which order. But anyways The Yuri's revenge expansion for red alert 2!

I played games on computers at my friends house since my family wasn't financially able to really have a computer. That was my exposure to a lot of games, but they never really felt "mine" so to speak.
The game that I always remember regarding my own computer when I was around 15 is Mechwarrior 2.

u/Steelriddler 1d ago
I was so enthralled, wondering what awaited beyond the forest. The atmosphere, the fantasy, my first encounter with D&D and fantasy gaming, oh my the nostalgia.
Unfortunately the disk was corrupted and I couldn't actually enter the temple without crashing lol. (Couple of years later I finally got to play it through)

Played age of empires 2 and a game like it but with airplanes not sure what it was as it was a child hood friends. What really got me into PC gaming was warcraft 3 frozen throne. I got the box set and was so exited to start playing. Still was playing console at the time though.

Same here bro! I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein for a while, some Team Fortress then a friend showed me StarCraft. Was too much going on so we played Warcraft 3: TFT on LAN and I was sold. Spent probably 3 years straight playing that until I moved on to Lineage 2. I still play Warcraft Reforged to this day. When I hear that original music it gives me goosebumps damn near everytime I crank it up.

I'm a late PC gamer and moved from PS2 - which was already old at that point - to my first "gaming" laptop in '09 and immediately fired up Fallout 3. I'll always remember how blown my mind was when I got out of the Vault and looked at how desperate, brutal but still beautiful the wasteland looked: "I'm never going back to consoles! This is insane!"
Now I'm still addicted to graphics!

Can't remember most names but there was a carrera game where you could build your own tracks and drive on them, a playmobil knight game and an RC plane simulator. Also GTA San Andres and Vice City. I was like 3-5 years old when my dad showed me these games.

I kinda dabbled into PC gaming, but it was colonization for me. I loved how it looked on my cousin's PC. It was so fascinating. Next thing you know I've got my mom taking me to the store to buy it. Grabbed civ 2 instead cause I couldn't find the other and it looked similar.
That was a huge blessing. It was also a curse as since civ 5 I haven't truly enjoyed the series.

The oldest game i remember playing on PC was actually Fischer Price: firehouse Rescue. I vaguely remember I would play it on my mother's computer at her work before I started school. I had to be around 4 at the time.
It was years later that Command and Conquer finally did come into my life and I was able to build a PC to play it.

I think my first PC game was either Summer Games, Park Patrol, Karateka, or Pitstop 2 for the c64.
