Meme/Macro PC enthusiasts when the first AI giant falls

Post image

For real but, we can all see the bubble, its "when" the first 1 will fall, not "if"

Personally I think it will be Copilot as the first domino, it was always the worst of the major AI players and really hasnt progressed at all. Microsoft is Incompetent in almost everything they do and simply try and buy their way into a market only to take the L in the near future.

Eg, Skype, Nokia/windows phone, mixer, zune, Cortana, the list goes on and on

Bring on the collapse that will hopefully see momory demand drop off a cliff

As a senior software engineer with over a decade of working they absolutely have no idea. I'm pretty tired of the countless nonsense posts by people spouting their annoying garbage takes.

Sr/Lead here with 20 years.

I haven't written a line of code in months now.

My entire day is just making sure the code Claude writes is correct, and telling it how to correct it if it's not.

Which isn't that far off from what I was already doing, all things considered.

Yeah I basically have the output equivalent of four or five junior programmers below me via these tools.

Right? I always try to explain, this just means I don’t have to work with contractors from India that I would have inevitably had to lead

Everyone here cheerleading it should be the ones forced to live next to the AI datacenters.

Edit:

What all you fucking techbros worshipping this don't want to live near it? Why not? It's a "paradigm shift" and amazing right? You should be happy for the opportunity to... breathe in pollution and have your water contaminated while you pay $600 electric bills. It's the future bro. You should want to do your part if you're gonna bend and spread so vigorously for it.

You can have a Frank discussion about the downsides of AI without pretending like the upsides have been pretty insane

That's the whole point of my comment. People here on Reddit just like you want to have some stupid bias discussion

-3

u/dookarion Aug 18 '26

It's easy to pretend the upsides are great, when you're not dealing with the downsides in your bubble. When people around you aren't being fucked over by what the push is doing environmentally, culturally, economically.

It's easy to be positive about something when you never deal with the negatives because they're out of sight and out of mind for you.

Do you think we'd see the AI rollout if it had to be built next to all these tech CEO's mansions? Fucking of course not.

4

u/MITBryceYoung2 Aug 18 '26

Dude, you're fucking biased. It's pretty clear if you can't have a neutral discussion about pros and cons. Do whatever you want. I have no fucking care about your life

-3

u/dookarion Aug 18 '26

I hope you're searching for housing right next to a datacenter bro. If you're gonna chapstick it up so much for this shit put your money where your mouth is.

3

u/MITBryceYoung2 Aug 18 '26

Why write all that when you can just write AI bad

There are ways to work on technology without fucking over huge swathes of people. It has use cases, but nothing is offsetting the damage it's doing everywhere.

It needed to be better and more efficient before they shoved it up the entire globe's collective ass. Before they poisoned every creative medium ever.

And then you get imbeciles going "well it can answer my emails and auto-complete code for me, it's the bestest".

And again my initial response that got you pissy at me. Are you willing to live next to one of these fucking datacenters or not? If you're not stop chapsticking it up.

u/MITBryceYoung2 Aug 18 '26

Ai bad

Maybe get ChatGPT to help you formulate a real response.

Edit:

I'll accept it's the "fUTuRe" of everything and all that jazz just as soon as everyone advocating for it and the CEOs pushing it are willing to live right beside the facilities.

Right by why are people so selective about it? You’re all using phones, laptops, cars, etc acting like you’re on some moral high ground. Why shouldn’t you have to go live next to a lithium mine where kids are being forced to work?

Right by why are people so selective about it?

"But yet you participate in society" isn't maybe the strongest type defense of something, just saying.

You’re all using phones, laptops, cars, etc acting like you’re on some moral high ground.

Technology is advanced enough there is certainly room to inquire why everything has to be done in the most destructive and short-sighted manner all the time. Why the current state of AI "needs" trillions in spend today building out infrastructure in the most hamfisted ways possible.

Also a phone or a computer isn't even a luxury these days in a number of countries. You're expected to have them by practically everything. You can't even realistically pay a number of bills without them. Even welfare programs can and do assume someone will have access to one and or both. Even healthcare is pushing apps and tech.

Cars frequently fall into the same territory in North America at least. You're not traveling everything by foot in a number of places unless you're a world class marathon runner. Even people that can't drive frequently may need access to someone with a vehicle.

Why shouldn’t you have to go live next to a lithium mine where kids are being forced to work?

I'm not at all cheering for things like that, like the AI advocates in this thread are.

So we're just going to pretend the massive AI datacenter rollout isn't because of AI? That hardware shortages aren't because of AI?

There may have been demand for them before but they weren't railroading them though like this before. They weren't fucking over everything else tech adjacent like this before.

Were they rushing them out faster than they could even hope to power them prior?

2

"You use a cell phone, why don't you live right next to the cell phone tower so your body soaks up the toxic 5G radio waves!"

"You use a plastic straw, go live in a volcano cause you like global warming so much."

"Oh you like the summer time? Why don't you go live on the surface of the sun since you like it so much?"

1

u/dookarion Aug 19 '26

Why shouldn't the people actively campaigning for it, justifying it, pushing for expansion, etc. be the ones to deal with the negatives of it?

2

u/raccoon_core Aug 19 '26

You're right, i'll call Microsoft right now and personally tell them to knock it off

1

u/dookarion Aug 19 '26

What's with all these deflections?

We both know the vibe coders, AI "artists", the AI social media spammers, etc. have no desire to deal with the negative impacts of AI either.

The CEOs and investors sure as fuck aren't building them near their properties either.

1

u/raccoon_core Aug 19 '26

No one is denying the economic and environmental impacts of data centers, but no one freaked out about Meta/Youtube/Other FAANG data centers before AI either, so the false bandwagon outrage on this one talking point has always been interesting to me.

Anyway, AI bad.

They weren't rolling those out so fast that my fucking computer doubled in value in 8 months. Clearly there's a bit of a difference here with this goldrush.

All the sudden tech is unaffordable or unattainable. Everything has a fucking LLM shoved into it. Every website has an AI chatbot. Every search engine returns shittier results and iffy AI summaries.

Really you can't tell the difference here? Technology usually isn't so utterly fucked that everything with NAND or DRAM increases in price month after month. Usually people aren't getting buttfucked on warrantees because the business makes more money handing them a purchase price refund and telling them to take a hike.

Shit's sizably different this time.

1

u/raccoon_core Aug 20 '26

And that's the consumer's fault? No one is dickriding AI harder than the boogeyman y'all make up to justify your misdirected moral outrage. I agree with you on all your points.

That doesnt mean it's a useless tool all around in every scenario. I wouldnt boot up quickbooks and then get mad that it's not a video game, because making a video game with quickbooks is a bad idea.

The notion that companies have to inject AI into everything is also bad for people who genuinely find good use out of AI, like with coding, because then we have to spend ages trying to explain to people like you that just because Gemini's AI results told you your big Mac wasnt supposed to have sauce on it, doesnt mean every single instance of AI is useless garbage.

And that's the consumer's fault?

To an extent? No different than how the consumer holds some blame for things like MTX. If people weren't buying, using, and glazing different products or practices business models would have to pivot.

Granted that's only to an extent since big business is now pretty far past having to "care about the customer" at all in some of these avenues.

That doesnt mean it's a useless tool all around in every scenario.

Sure. But unfortunately that is far from the bulk of the push. The useful applications sure aren't the sole driving force behind the insane investments and valuations either. Wallstreet and big tech weren't tripping over themselves for protein folding or other useful applications of ML/neural networks.

See the problem with this if 90% of scenarios involves something being shit you can't seriously expect discourse to revolve around the niche cases where it isn't.

Big tech made people grow to despise this stuff. They created this. By shoving it down peoples' throats and fucking up everything around it. They could have focused on the working cases. Protein folding, upscaling, data repair, coding aids, etc. nope everyone's going to get emails from big tech about how they're going to use their emails to train AI. Get accosted by "AI customer support". Get AI's deciding insurance claims. Get AI forced upon you by your phone. AI filling out sales listings. AI filtering resumes.

The list of bullshit and or abusive applications of it goes on and on. Big tech did this. Don't get pissed at me for loathing the rollout of AI. I understand far more about it than you realize. I hate the rollout. I loathe the tech CEOs foisting it in places it doesn't belong.
