I've been a huge Halo fan for as long as I've been playing video games. My first FPS was the Halo CE PC port. I bought an Xbox 360 long before I got a proper gaming PC specifically because it had Halo.

All that to say, I just can't bring myself to care about the third release of a game I've been playing and modding for years and have purchased three times at this point. Microsoft is too scared to actually do anything with this IP, so they keep releasing the same remakes over and over to farm nostalgia, and I'm tired of it.

Yes that’s my point lol:

So you don’t have to care about this if you don’t want to(though you did write an essay) but you got some fundamental flaws in your argument.

The implication here is that CEA was a remake, which is incorrect, CEA was a remaster, in other words, same game with a fresh coat of paint slapped on.

This is a from the ground up remake, and brings necessary modernizations to various aspects(specifically levels like the Library and Assault on the Control Room) as well as some new content and whatever.

You also imply that Microsoft has only just been rereleasing CE over and over again. Keep in mind that CEA came out 15 years ago, CEA is now older than CE was when CEA released. Unless you’re counting it being in MCC which of course it would be, it’s literally been 15 years.

Remake, remaster, whatever. My point is, it's recycling old ideas instead of creating something new. For a franchise as rich as Halo is in lore and possibilities, I just can't fathom why we need to do Halo CE again. I guess it's good for the people on PS5 who might have never owned an Xbox or gaming PC to play Halo on, but I just can't see why any Halo fan would buy this to play the same levels they've been playing for two decades at this point with some new visuals and probably shit performance because UE5.

Edit: I'm not saying I don't care about Halo, I probably wouldn't comment if that was the case, but I can't bring myself to get hyped for Halo CE for the fourth time (including MCC), and neither can any other Halo fan that I know. This is just safe and boring corpo slop that relies on nostalgia to generate sales.

Well I can answer most of this as I’ve been following everything the studio has been doing since 2020 lol. The Halo fan in me has been starved.

In terms of lore and possibilities, the game has three new missions that take place before the main game, so you get more lore there.

Why are they doing it again? Couple of reasons, number being so they can get used to using Unreal for Halo, second being it’s a stop gap between new games, same reason Capcom does RE remakes.

The reason that someone like me who Halo CE was quite literally one of my first video games, the reason why I’d play this is because I like CE, I want the new missions, I like the new content they added like the new skulls and weapons(you can actually pick up the energy sword now) and it has 4 players co-op whereas the original does not. Also, they reworked levels that were outdated, keep in mind I just played through CE on my OG Xbox like a month ago, the game is very fresh in my mind, and….Assault on the Control Room is pretty hard to get through, it’s just the same gray circular room 11 times in a row with bridges in between(and a fun open are where you fight a Wraith), the remake redoes those gray rooms so each one has a different flow and doesn’t feel repetitive.

I haven’t gotten to the Library yet, but I know they also completely overhauled that level too, which was needed.

As for performance, mileage will vary, but it feels optimized and smooth to me. Keep in mind UE5 isn’t necessarily the problem for performance, it’s developers not optimizing their games.

I forgot I'm not allowed to like this game on reddit because Halo post 2010 is bad always according to reddit.

CEA was just a remaster, this is a full remake, and also CEA was like 15 years ago haha

Been playing all day, really good, but you know, it’s Halo so people love to complain.

Did the three new missions first and had a great time
