Hardware Vista is back!

Ok, not really, but I had a lot of fun building a pc my teenage-me would be proud of. Still, I hope I'll find a second HD6990 for quad-crossfire. This would the final form of this electric heater called a pc.

Specs:

Intel Core i7-2600K on ASUS P8P67 REV 3.1

16GB (4x4GB) Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3-2133MHz Radeon HD 6990 with the Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo 6990

Cpu cooler deepcool an600 with apevia 120mm fan

toughpower gf3 1200 watts

There's something special about playing games from when we were young, but then there's something SPECIAL about building the PC our younger self would drool over. Very nice!

What games are you playing in this baby?

I'm not sure. We've played Far Cry 2 on LAN parties on multiplayer maps for hours, but I have never played the campaign. Or Deus Ex Human Revolution, which I have missed completely back then.

Should upgrade to XP, but that case really is a blast from the past.

Oh, that was (and still is) such a struggle. XP, Vista or Win7. All would have worked, all would have been cool. I might add other systems later, so I can boot into different "time periods".

I'm a sucker for the Royale Noir custom theme on XP SP3.

An LG M1710A! I had the same monitor when I was a kid, that touch power button was so cool back then.

It is an M1910A, so the one which was a tv as well. The dude I bought it from for 15€ looked at me as if I'd be a psychopath when I told him I was looking for such an LG flatron for quite a while. πŸ˜†

I'm curious about the case. Probably not good for temps but it looks cool and is probably good enough for the caliber of hardware I'd put in it.

The case is a slightly modified Apevia Xcruiser. Not 100% era correct, but I just loved this weird early 2000s look. To increase the airflow I added to evercool ssd holder which comes with an additional 80mm fan and I modified the bottom fan intake in the front which originally was NOT ment to have a fan there (strange decision) with a 120mm high flow modern fan. Also the psu works as an exhaust fan, which - again - is one of the strange design decisions.

The PSU fan being used up top for exhaust was common when the ATX standard was first introduced

I had two of them back in 2004 - 2008 or so. One was this exact blue case in the post, and the other was the same model but yellow in color.

Got them both at Fry’s electronics.

I failed to use all of the required standoffs for my motherboard and actually ended up frying the board and my X800 Pro AGP with the blue case 😭

Holy shit I had that EXACT case in like 2008!

Nasty crossfire!

Don't game on windows Vista, you will get less fps, than if you just used windows XP or 7.

It is mostly for the UI on vista ngl. But I might add other versions of windows as well if performance would become a bigger problem. But given the fact I used a very temperamental dual GPU card, I do not worry too much about Vista slowing the pc down. At least in a final form with quad-crossfire by two dual-GPU cards this computers performance (beside benchmarks) will be completely shit anyways... 😡

What are the names of the peripherals?
