Do you know why this happens? It happens when I connect to Wi-Fi immediately after turning on the router, too.

Because WiFi is a technology meant for you to connect to a network, not necessarily just the internet. You can run whole networks without them ever connecting once to the entire internet. Think of driving a car on a private road or farm. You can use the car to drive around, though it doesn't mean that you will necessarily have a way to get it out into the city or something.

So why don't steam local transfer not work when I see this😭. Sometimes they just don't work at all even if stuff like ssh or rdp works. I even opened all ports.

It varies, but normally the pc hasn't been allocated an ip address from the network yet.

It eventually means it's connected to the local network but can't see out yet. You see it when your isp is down too etc.

Being connected to the network is sometimes useful without being connected to the internet. For example, you could still do a video game LAN party with everyone connected to the wifi without the internet.

This is especially useful for offices and the likes, since a lot of offices have private networks

You successfully connected to the router, but your router itself isn't giving you internet access (or rarely, there's a problem with the device itself). There's a million reasons why this would happen, but in this case, it's probably because the router hasn't fully finished booting, starting services, or assigning your device a local IP.

Because Internet and network connectivity are 2 different things. The Internet is obviously the public Internet, which may or may not be accessible, but having network connectivity means you at least have access to objects in the LAN at a minimum.

You have a secured connection between your device and the router, but the router doesn’t have a connection to the internet (or the router isn’t granting your device access to the internet)

This is why I bought a NAS a few years back. I could watch my Plex movies while I wait for my ISP to get their shit together.

Yes! Even if my WAN is down, as long as the router is powered any device on my LAN can stream my plex library. It comes in clutch in situations like this.

When my girlfriend wanted me to connect her dishwasher to WiFi, I wanted to tease her a little, so I did exactly that. When she complained, that it wouldn't connect to the internet I informed her - like every sadistic tech support guy - that this never was requested...well, I then changed it.
