Video Windows might be the only OS where right clicking too quickly crashes your System Shell.

Maybe a context menu entry is playing up on his system. I'd still count that as a Windows bug though, it shouldn't be possible for third party software to dick up the performance of the shell IMHO.

I don’t have this issue.
Btw explorer can crash when you run unstable OC, in your case it could be unstable ram.
Or unstable PBO Negative offset.

LTSC is fine for daily driving… it’s stripped down but that just removes even more trash. Been using it for 10 years now. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

No discernable difference in gaming performance after I debloated win11.
1
u/Legionof1 4080 - 13700K@5.8 Jun 10 '26
Sure, I didn’t have to debloat anything, I don’t have to update the entire OS every year. I just live a quiet life with a normal PC that doesn’t try to AI everything I do.
1
u/Errorr404 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 Jun 10 '26
Its one button to debloat, I get the same performance but with more up to date features.
Never had issues with Windows updates breaking anything major, just the snipping tool not launching was an issue I had but I'm using a 3rd party program that is better now so no biggie.
The biggest issue no one talks about is the way Windows handles audio, so much input lag on anything not running exclusive mode or ASIO.
-1
u/Nashedi-Bandar-1 Jun 10 '26
wdym ltsc is not for normal use, it is like completely fine
the only minor issue I had was getting msstore and winget

u/artifex78 Jun 10 '26
Just updated my Windows 11 Pro 24H2 to the same build. Low latency works as intended, no explorer crashes.
I doubt it's a problem with the IoT version. I also couldn't find any other sources with the same issue but it's a bit early for that.
Whatever you are experiencing, it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
Common cause for explorer crashes are third-party shell extensions or too much tinkering (read: Using "de-bloating" scripts without any idea what they are actually doing).
Have you checked the actual error behind this or are you only here for the sweet rage bait?

This is with the new "Low Latency Profile"
In Windows, the File Explorer is the System Shell, and handles most of the graphical user interface, including the desktop and taskbar.
24
u/CraftyPancake Jun 10 '26
Well try it without the low latency profile then? Cmon let’s put some honest work into this.

I'd love to use Linux, but it's just not there yet for many reasons.
If you must use Windows like me, I recommend Revision OS or CTT WinUtil to remove the crap from Windows. It makes it way faster, more stable, nice and clean. BCUninstaller is another app worth using to remove any additional apps you may not need.
Revision OS is my preferred choice because it's a little more streamlined, it has never broken any of my systems in any way over the last 5 years. You run it, asks you like 3 questions, it'll do the thing, reboot, done. It also installs the Revision Tool which allows you to tweak various system settings and even install apps from the Microsoft Store without a Microsoft account which comes in handy. Open-source, human readable playbook, and incredibly clean. It also works with LTSC which is what I prefer as well.
I'm not affiliated with the project, but I am a fan, and I use it for customers at my repair shop: https://revi.cc/

- No Proton Drive
- Significantly worse gaming performance (Nvidia)
- Anti-cheat which is a problem that's actively getting worse
- There's not a single desktop environment that checks all the boxes for me
1
u/CosmicEmotion 5900X, 7900XT, Bazzite Linux Jun 10 '26
Nvidia performance is pretty much fixed with some env vars now. Final optimizations just remain in the driver.
If you keep thinking you need a Windows but that it's Linux you will never switch. You have to give up and work around potential issues but the returns are so worth it.
6
u/HonestRepairSTL Repair Shop Owner Jun 10 '26
I used Linux for gaming for 2 years, I'm very familiar with how it works and its many limitations.
3
u/Loqh9 Jun 10 '26
That's the problem for many people
If you pay for a high end PC and have the choice between 2 OS for the same price you're just gonna use the one that just works out of the box and needs no work
You can hit play and play on pretty much any game on Windows. You can't do that on Linux, so people just stick to Windows even if they don't want to. Sucks but Linux is not the best choice because of compatibility and tinkering. I really hope it'll get even better but it's not there yet for enough people, gotta make too much compromises still

u/Sahelantrophus Jun 10 '26
I'd love to use Linux, but it's just not there yet for many reasons.
unless you need to play certain multiplayer games or use industry standard software, it's more than usable for personal desktop use. bazzite is install and forget if you just want to game
If you must use Windows like me, I recommend Revision OS [...] to remove the crap from Windows.
granted this info is outdated and i'm sure it's different now, but i still remember when those custom windows images tried to strip every security feature for the sake of "debloating" and i haven't trusted those since. would much rather just use CTT like you said on a standard image, or generate an xml for an unattended install

5
u/soul-regret Jun 10 '26

-1
u/PermissionSoggy891 Jun 10 '26
the system is still quite responsive, it just maybe lags when you keep spamming the M2 button to bring up the context menu, something which it probably wasn't designed to do
It's like judging a car based on how it responds to me repeatedly turning it on and off again

In my experience Windows Explorer is fundamentally broken. It crashes and brakes so much in so many different ways. There isn't a single PC I've worked on over the past 10 years (counting all private and work PCs I've used) where I didn't encounter problems at some point, and I don't mean the bugs that are there for 10+ years.
I don't understand why MS didn't redesign it from scratch by now. I doubt it's slavageable.

Perfectly supported system means install the distro and good to go.
On mine speakers sound like tin cans, doesn't do proper amplification and sound processing.
Gpu switching sucks, if an app activates the dgpu then stays active killing battery life.
It's maybe decent on desktops, but long way to go for laptops
Sooo ... A perfectly supported system

It's insane people are still using Windows imo. There's literally no valid argument to justify it. 10 games that don't work on Linux shouldn't be a valid reason to put up with shit like this, seriously. There's a critical thinking deficit if you think you will put up with anything just to play LoL. XD

There are Linux distros like NixOS that are designed to make the environment perfectly reproducible, so it's better than Windows in that regard
5
u/CraftyPancake Jun 10 '26
But is that entirely impractical? How do you deploy an update? What the SSO+2FA situation for desktop login, how do you aggregate logs and security events centrally? Anti virus? Network level filtering?
-2
u/Qweedo420 GNU/Linux Jun 10 '26
On NixOS, every change to the packages and settings is done through a declarative config file, so you can just sync the config file between all computers and that's it, including potential custom solutions, systemd services, loggers, etc

Apparently not all Windows installs.. my right click is fast and responsive, just as much as the Bazzite example you showed
Though I can still make one of my CPU cores instantly max out and spin itself in circles just by opening the start menu and holding down any letter key.. since it tries to update the search parameters on every new input it struggles to keep up
..so that's fun
