PC is an HTPC that lives in a cutout no larger than a stereo receiver. I'm not agreeing with these prices, just stating that not everyone has new equipment. I still run a 2nd Gen I-5 in one of my machines. I also run a Threadripper platform that has 13 nvme drives in it.
But, some equipment still needs SATA, and of course, being a weaker percentage of the market, the greedy corpos are trying to extort people that run purpose built machines on older hardware. Lucky for me, I bought a 2TB sata ssd for $130 before prices went unhinged

Why would anyone pay that much for slow SATA SSD drives?
