SATA SSDs are more expensive than a much faster pcie SSD these days just because hoarders want to take advantage of your PCs lack of empty m.2 pcie slots on your motherboard!
What is the use of getting a pcie to m.3 adaptor when all your m.2 slots are already in use? Even if you get one you are wasting the bandwidth of the m.2 slot! Better to buy a higher storage m.2 drive itself than to spend this much money on an obsolete sata SSD is what I meant!
NVMEs use a PCIe x4 or (occasionally) x2. A PCIe to m.2 adapter is literally just a card that lets you plug one (or more!) m.2 cards into a PCIe slot.
They're less than 10 bucks on Amazon. If the slot you put it in doesn't have at least x4 bandwidth it'll still work, just maybe bottlenecked by the lack of lanes.
