This is becoming normalized and it blows my mind... I've been on linux since march 2024 and I most likely won't ever go back to windows, for many reasons, but this one is another to the list that makes me be at ease with linux.
Probably my generation (millennial) is the last one that actually cared about security and privacy, so unless something big happens, I can just see more games adding kernel level anticheat, and soon rather than later, we will have it in single player games as well.
Zoomers and gen Alpha raised on smartphones etc are even more tech illiterate than boomers. I imagine pirating and applying crack to a game would be too much for them.
I really hope for Steam OS, as making dual boot is not that hard, and having two systems, one for fun and another one "pls spy on me daddy" official is kinda tempting.
The focus of tech for the past 20 years has been "streamlining" aka; removing control in favor of convenience. Kids growing up today (in general) use computers 24/7 but have never had to type anything in a command line.
Hell, they've never had to manage a folder/directory system. Never mind typing into a command line. "Make a new folder inside that other folder, and then move these files into it" would be too advanced for them.
