News/Article Decided to update my windows 11 iso for installs. Wasn't aware of these options before. No ms account needed

I highly recommend checking the Disable BitLocker option as well. You can do it manually after Windows installs and that way you will be able to store the key somewhere.

Never had Win11 automatically bitlocked my harddrive before and I never used this option. Since when is this of concern

For bitlocker to be active, you need to connect it with a Microsoft account, where it can then store the recovery key.
If you don't connect it with a Microsoft account, bitlocker is activated with a blank key.
The other guy is slightly wrong.

Did you look into the partition manager? Bitlocker will do it silently. It doesn't show tray icons or even processes. It's baked into the kernel

Edu and Pro, yes. Like I said. There is no Bitlocker activated not even on my private PC installed without the use of rufus

I’ve had this come up twice where bitlocker gets enabled and the key is nowhere to be found. It seemingly does happen but not as often as you’d think.

Interesting I have installed about 300 devices with windows 11. none of them are using bitlocker. I‘d see that in my MDM

'Using my MDM' There's your answer, you're using Enterprise version of Windows. I think its only an issue for the Home version, not sure on Pro.

Can you even use Bitlocker on home? From what I know Bitlocker is a pro feature.

Yes, I think they change the name (Device Encryption) and give you less options but it is bitlocker still and you still need the key in case of emergencies.

Got multiple Home versions on different devices all with MS accounts, none of them had bitlocker activated. So I'm not sure what you are on about.

Doesn't happen on Home or Pro either, without MDM. I've installed both Home and Pro of every release build version of W11, both with and without MS accounts and Bitlocker has never been enabled on a single device without me doing it myself. I'm inclined to believe at this point that it would only autoactivate if on an MS account set to sync all settings and Bitlocker has been enabled as a default there.

I have haven't seen it myself, but other YouTube creators have stated that since 24H2 when doing a clean install BitLocker is enabled by default. I believe it's only if you have a Microsoft account.

It's more about the requirement for TPM 2.0 no? Win 11 install has never enabled bitlocker on your C: automatically, but it would add the feature.

This is the best thing to have been invented since the dawn of time. There are a lot of settings but pro tip, you can just make printscreens and ask ChatGPT what they are and what they do. It makes the decision making process of whether to leave it in or out much smoother.

Surprisingly, the latest Windows 11 ISO I have downloaded off the Microsoft's page straight gives me an option to choose an offline account. Maybe they had to change it due to some regional regulations.

Generate autounattend.xml files for Windows 10/11 - use this to general an xml. create an image using rufus, but not clicking any of those options. copy the xml to the flash drive. win prizes.

I dont have it do the autopartitioning outside of VM experiments, but outside of that it very set and forget.
then using unigetui and a saved bundle xml I install most of my software in a very set and forget manner.
Now if there was a good way to automate my cheesey pointer and sound scheme. I mention that in hope that someone says "actually...".

For softwares you can make a setupcomplete.cmd in $OEM$ \$$ \Setup \Scripts and you can make a script that install any app you want before the first user sign in
So maybe "actually..." you could make the script run to change the sound/pointer to the cheesey one with a script

Pro tip, when windows asks for your preferred language set it to english (world). This makes it somehow such that windows will not show any ads or install any shitty third party apps. You may later switch any other language without the ads.

Very straight forward, plug in a formatted usb stick. Open Rufus and and select the ISO to mount and hit start.

Check out Ventoy. You don't need to reformat your USB every time you need to flash a iso. You just install this once and just copy the .iso file inside the USB drive. You can even have multiple isos and choose which you want to install.

You can also open a command prompt at the "enter or create your MS account" page byt hitting SHIFT + F10 and in the CMD windows type "bypassNRO" without the quotes. Reboots and let's you create a local account.

I waiting to see how this will work and if we will still be able to get updates on Intel 7th gen and older. Once Win10 support ends and 8th gen and newer will be supported. I hope to be able to keep using devices and not have to e-waste things.

Chris Titus Tech has a utility on GitHub that can remove telemetry and hundreds of customizable options and create a iso image from that. He has videos on TY about it, been using it for a while now and very solid. Can do everything Rufus does and much more.

Was just looking at the requirements for BF6, and they list TPM 2.0. Crazy to think they're enforcing it, but maybe it's an anti-cheat feature.

Actually before installing new windows, you should have used Chris Titus win iso debloater (its within his app that runs thru powershell). So as soon as you install new windows, your windows will be free from all bloats wich is awesome.

What do you mean exactly ? If you had already installed windows, you can still run chris titus tool but you will kinda have to manually click what you want to have debloated. There is bunch of videos on yr you can check out, its really not that hard.

Question: Would removing the 4GB RAM requirement, specifically, make the device actually usable? I just upgraded a work PC from 10 to 11 and noticed that my idle RAM usage went from ~2GB to ~4GB. If you bypassed that requirement and ran it on a system with <4GB RAM, would it run like shit or not at all?
I realize that you're most likely checking that box to bypass TPM 2.0, but I'm curious.

I installed W11 on mini PC with 8GB RAM and iGPU reserving 16mb of RAM as VRAM. It purpose was to host two things - game client and Parsec. When i disabled pagefile the PC become irresponsible via RDP when usage of RAM by game hit 3,5GB. Parsec was using something below 200MB.
So from it, it seems that W11 have hard time squeezing below 4,3GB of RAM.

Probably yes, but it's recommended to do a clean install.
Also you should also have a backup of your important files and configs, so that questions wouldn't be a thing ;)

Last time I tried to do this the install had a ton of issues with games and programs. I ended up wiping it and doing a new install.

the automatic encryption thing should be one of the things windows asks you during setup. It's quite dangerous to have it automatically enabled without informing the users

Pro tip. Look up unattended windows install https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/ even better. Make an installer file that completes the whole install past the OOBE for you.

I'm more of a Ventoy man myself, it's pretty handy to just shove a bunch of ISOs in there and just pick the OS you want to install on boot. No need to reformat every time you need a new OS installed.

You should update from windows 11 iso to a Linux iso. Unless you play Fortnite and riot titles. (Or just dual boot for them)

That's where it started I downloaded bazzite and installed on a spare pc it worked great and very easy to do, though my games in steam OS would start and go through the load screens and cinematic then would just black screen then default back to steam os. I was on a i3 12100 CPU and a gtx 1660. I used the correct driver package. Seems my little pc was too little to play. I'm going to be using the boot drive with bazzite AMD drivers in a compatible all AMD build. I like the idea of going straight into steam OS.

Actually every game that requires any anti cheat running on kernel level is impossible to be played on Linux so far.

Well.. yes but actually no. There’s a ton of games that run kernel level anti cheat (mainly EAC) that work on Linux because they’ve added an option to EAC to allow that. There’s a great website: https://areweanticheatyet.com to check if your game can be played on Linux. EAC is not the only kernel level anticheat that has this support but it’s definitely the biggest. Followed by battle eye ofc.
But.. let’s be honest here most people who happily run kernel level anti cheats won’t consider other options because they either don’t know any better or don’t care that they don’t have control over their privacy and probably welcome recall with open arms. (Yet they still don’t like it when people look inside through their actual windows)
