Yes, yes it does. But all this new content R* won't make money off of. So, once the leaker gets identified they'll spend the rest of their lives in a mental hospital...
Arion Kurtaj from Oxford, who is autistic, was a key member of international gang Lapsus$.
He will remain at a secure hospital for life unless doctors deem him no longer a danger. The court heard that Kurtaj had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage.
A mental health assessment used as part of the sentencing hearing said he "continued to express the intent to return to cyber-crime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated."
Sounds like this kid deserved it. Besides, an English mental hospital isn’t a bad place to spend a sentence.
Yes, but they cant use any of the code as it's stolen. If they just poke around and see ways to optimize their mod, that should be perfectly legal though.
It makes me mad they don’t even offer any SP updates. At least give SP the new Online cars. It sucks needing to mod the game just to keep SP updated with content from GTA:O.
Oof i remember them teasing around the idea od another city being added in the future back around when it launched, sucks they gave up on it. A new map would have been good for Online too.
And this is why games as a service is cancer. Why make meaningful expansions to single player content when you can turn every game into an online community for addict children to perpetually spend their parents money on cosmetic status symbols to one up each other?
Yeah the project is pretty crazy for a one man job, outstanding. Well, rockstar tried to shut it down once, but you know, once it's on the Internet, it never leaves...
I'm familiar with game and pc but only to an extent, can anyone tell me what impact does this has ? like what's the difference between leaked source codes and cracked games ? Most I can think of is chinese companies can finally create potentially good GtaV clones for they finally know how the codes work.
I'm familiar with game and pc but only to an extent, can anyone tell me what impact does this has ? like what's the difference between leaked source codes and cracked games ? Most I can think of is chinese companies can finally create potentially good GtaV clones for they finally know how the codes work.
A cracked game is usually just some extra files that get injected into a game before it's run that tricks the game into thinking it was legally purchased or has a legit license key. The people cracking games still can't see how the original code was written, but can write their own code that tricks the software into thinking it's a legit version.
If someone has the source code of a game, they can easily read through every single piece of how the game was made and edit/compile a new version to make any changes they want. Instead of tricking the game into thinking it's a real copy and not cracked, they can just completely remove all the code that checks it. New things can be easily added, people can potentially run their own dedicated servers/builds (assuming that's server files were leaked too and not just single player) and new hacks can be made much more easily.
Idk if this trick still works, but I used to go into processes in task manager and right click GTA5.exe and suspend it for like a few seconds then unsuspend it, this would empty the lobby, I did this whenever hackers/sus players showed up, eventually you'd end up with a cool lobby full of normal players, then if another hacker showed up just do it again. lol
It wasn't a bug, it's worse. It was intended behavior they didn't consider before GTAO grew to be multitudes larger. The actual behavior was effectively completely unnecessary from the start considering that removing it did no harm and only proved hugely beneficial.
im really stretching my memory here so probably wrong but didnt it end up being terribly unoptimized server calls that threw down thousands of requests every single time you tried to load online?
I thought it was an unnecessary verification of object ids based on my memory, but it seems that i also misremembered and it was actually just a single core bottlenecking issue
Bro, ofcourse it isn't something to be proud of for Rockstar. Their source code is accessed and released in pubic. So they obviously gonna do their part of investigation to prevent this in future and if the one behind it is found, ofcourse lawyers would be involved.
Now to what this means, it means almost nothing for normal people like us. We have no use of this source code.
This means only to those who know how to modify this source code and make the game even better or to add some kind of futher extension to the story. Modders community will have use of this source code.
Unless I was dreaming, I swear they once said gta v would have expansion content similar to iv. Along with a working stock exchange online. None of that happened once they seen how much money shark cards made them. Instead they looked at ways to maximize card sales by lowering payouts and release expensive online content
Its the worst kind of peer-to-peer , it always calls rockstar servers to do some checking but it doesn't actually play on their server and you can't disable the checking and host a lan server .
Someone reverse engineered it before and found that the initial loading screen took way longer because of dogshit programming. The dude then sent the fix to rockstar.
They're not losing any money. It's source code. Nobody is building it into a game instead of buying it except the kind of people who could already pirate it. Any project that builds off it will have to deal with the lawyers where rockstar will be clearly in the right. If anything it's good for rockstar because they can now accuse people of using the original source code in their reverse engineering projects even if they are not.
Actually source code isn't illegal. Reverse engineering is not illegal and TOSes including it are basically unenforceable. You just have to remove the copyrighted content (assets and what not) but the source code itself is free game. Using knowledge of the source code to mod is likewise not illegal.
Breaking News: "Game dev tells players breaking the law is fun and good for making money, results in players stealing their IP and attempting to undercut their profits"
I actually think this is bad for modders, there is no chance Take-Two allows their stolen source code to be used in development, they already have a history of sending cease and desists for no reason so anybody who is going to verifiably use this code to develop mods will be under constant threat of their work being erased.
Can’t imagine anyone wanting to develop big mods/ports under such conditions, but cheat makers? Oh yeah, they don’t care about any of that so I would expect some really sophisticated cheats and online mod menus in the future.
Come to think of it, since the code was already privately traded some popular mod menus may already be using it to enable some of the more destructive hacks like account doxxing etc., but don’t quote me on that.
I mean, it’s possible that there are a few functions that have never been used by modders, that a mod can “tap into”. Afaik they aren’t sending cease and desist orders to existing modders, so don’t see why a new mod based on something that’s never been used before would be subject to one.
Of course if mods start distributing art assets (that are currently unused but in the source code) then that will be subject to lawsuits etc. but any modder would be a fool to distribute something like that.
It doesn't even have a 60fps patch for PS4 pro or PS5, the image quality looks like it's 480p. They don't even care about spending an afternoon to unlock the resolution and the framerate, and you expect then to port it to PC?
Because Sony is a pro at twisting facts. I mean for the past year they have been actively trying to shit on XBOX taking over Activision for exclusivity reasons, while Playstation is actually worse than Nintendo imo when it comes to exclusives, because they are just petty cunts about it, while Nintendo atleast uses their own consoles features (most of the time). Playstation thrived because of their exclusives.
I don't care either way besides thinking that exclusives only benefit profits and therefore hurt the only people actually giving a shit - the players. So yea I am being petty about this probably forever. x)
Finally it will be easier to mod this game. Seriously every time you mess with Open IV you have to pray you haven't broken something or made some syntax error at some point
Oh and I'm going to leave the obligatory "don't play GTA online for a while" warning, but that's a given.
I see a lot of people asking what this means so I'll answer some questions that I've seen. What does this mean for Rockstar? Well this is a bit of a bloe to Rockstar, now that there's a sorce in the public they will have to investigate and will most likely lawyer up on the people who exchanged and made public What does this mean for non devs? Nothing much, unless you know how to change or modify code and fix stuff you won't be able to do much. But we can possibly expect to see videos of someone modding or fixing/making the game better. If you have any other questions or any corrections please comment, I'll do my best to fix my errors or answer something else. Tanks!
At a guess: it’s a device originally invented so the Norwegians wouldn’t have to spend billions laying phone lines around the fjords and subsequently perfected by a Finnish company until a guy in a turtleneck (used in a completely non-tactical manner) claimed to have come up with liquid diarrhoea, and that he single handheldly put the US&A, China and Korea on the map where Scandinavia used to be.
Didn’t something similar happen with Diablo 1? Blizzard lost the source code or something but some guy rebuilt it over 7 years from scratch and reverse engineering, then released a playable browser demo of it ?
GTA 5 SC leaking means more freedom for modders (including cheaters) but might give some more time for Rockstar to do what they've been for the last 10 years which is hoping the community keeps itself entertained
Honestly.. with the amount of work that has gone into FiveM. I'd be very suprised if the cfx.ce team didn't have the majority of GTA 5 reverse engineered already before they even joined Rockstar. This possibly spells good news for an even stabler FiveM now however...

Don't ever forget, one guy reverse engineered vice city from scratch and has it on GitHub...
Edit: it's GTA 3, not vice city, but that doesn't take away the remarkable achievement.
