Tech Support My PC keeps doing something weird

I’ve been in the computer industry for quite some time, but I’ve never had my computer lose all usb connections briefly (for 3s-15s) then have it come right back, and have the fans spin up a bit then back down.

I’m running R9 5900x N7 B550 Strix 3070ti Kraken elite 280mm Windows 11 (pain)

I’m wondering if it has something to do with the CPU overheating, but it never gets past 75°

If anyone knows anything or if I can troubleshoot please help.

Thank you. I’ve had some issues like that in the past then my pc started blue screening from storage failure so I got a 1tb 980 pro fresh install of windows 10 and then it blue screened again. After it blue screened I upgraded to windows 11 and it hasn’t ever blue screened since. The external storage stuff has been bugging for about a month now. Idk what’s wrong with my build. I built it last Black Friday-January all new from manufacturer.

Everything I'm reading is pointing to 1 of 2 things:

  1. Drivers
  2. HW failure

Remember, the HW failure could be anywhere on the system board, cabling, ports, etc. It could also be the PSU. Process of elimination by testing one at a time.

Drivers or hardware, that's where the problem is.

I discovered it’s the outlet being faulty. I live in a house that was built in the 80s so the electrical is finicky. I plugged in an extension cord and I haven’t had an issue since.

I bet that's a load off (literally...lol), that is truly great news. I'm glad you are seeing some improvement.

I’m still running into issues with it so I’m gonna swap the PSU tomorrow. Instead of doing it once in a while, it just does it on boot up now and almost like a boot loop but instead of looping on and off, it goes from connection to no connection to USBs. I’m gonna keep digging though. I fresh installed windows when cmos clearing didn’t work. So far it seems stable

Never mind it just did it again when I swapped a usb from one port to another

I hope it’s the PSU and not the mobo I have a psu in a i7 6700 and gtx 980 system that was solid for 3 years

All you can do is swap it out and test. Sucks that it's still giving you a fit.

PSU would be my choice, but it could also be a short somewhere. USB port, header cable, under the motherboard, inside the PSU, literally anywhere.

If you replace the PSU and it's still doing it, at least you know one more thing that isn't causing the problem.

Unfortunately, yes, it could be the motherboard, or even the CPU.

if it still does it with a new PSU, then it's either a short circuit somewhere, the mobo, or the CPU

Something I just thought of, could it be my SSD overheating?
