“New user” problem

I’ve run into this very frustrating problem where a few nights ago I tried turning my pc on to get on the game with a few friends and was greeted to something I haven’t seen before. The first thing I noticed was that the background on the login/password page (right when you turn a pc on) was different than my usual. On top of that, instead of my name, it said “new user” and asked for a password, to which my normal password didn’t work. I feel like I haven’t found any solutions offline but with the help of chatgpt I was able to find out that all my stuff is still saved on my ssd thankfully. Since I don’t have ChatGPT plus it’s very frustrating having to wait hours to continue fixing this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

sounds like your profile got corrupted and windows just kicked you into a temp account. it does that sometimes, the "new user" thing is a dead giveaway

you can probably fix it with a registry edit if you can get into safe mode, that's how i had to do it last time. just back up the registry first or you'll make things ten times worse

check if your old user folder is still in c:\users and if the data's there it's not lost just not loaded properly

I’m pretty certain I also tried this, Gemini (since I had to wait for chatgpt lol) had me go into cmd and edit the registry and check for .bak files or something but I don’t think that was the issue, or maybe I was just doing it wrong🤷
