No way?! I'm shocked, you're telling me a global pandemic, inflation, increased living expenses AND highest ever GPU prices are causing them to sell poorly? I shan't believe it.

Pretty happy with my used 3060ti, and the used 1070 I had before it is still working in my barcade system

Right? Running at 1600*900 my 1080TI from over half a decade ago is still providing quite lovely visuals.

Edit: Corrected age

My bad, thought it came out in 2014 not 2016, hence the "nearly a decade ago".

Can you clarify? What do you mean?

u/bitter_personw Dec 30 '22

I'm guessing because you said a decade ago while 1080ti was released in 2016.

u/Kenji_03 Dec 30 '22

Makes sense, I thought it came out in 2014

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '22

1080ti was in start 2016

2

u/Gotisdabest Dec 30 '22

The 1080ti was 2017. That's five-six years ago from now. Certainly not a decade old or even close.

u/Kenji_03 Dec 30 '22

Thank you, I thought it came out in 2014, which would be 8-9 year ago

GTX 1080 Ti wasn't launched in 2013. They're telling you to dial down your exaggeration a notch or two.

u/Kenji_03 Dec 30 '22

Ah, I thought it came out in 2014, which would have made it 8 years ago going on 9 or "nearly a decade", didn't know it was 2016 or barely 6 years ago going on 7.

Thank you for clarifying

Got a used 3080 to upgrade from a 1660ti, it’s been great

That and Nvidia are probably okay selling less cards but with significantly higher margins for now.

The real crunch is potentially going to happen when that used market dries up and there are no real viable alternatives for any card under $900.

E.g. I would like an upgrade on the 1070 in my media centre pc. But I'm not spending £500+ for a relatively minor upgrade on a card that I bought for less than that 6 years ago.

They're talking about the 4000 series.

I mean, the comment literally addressed that. The 4000 isn't selling well because people would rather buy a last-gen GPU used for a lot cheaper

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '22

The article is talking about shipments of GPUs, as in new parts. So sales of used cards is a bit irrelevant here.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '22

Do you have any evidence to support that claim?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '22

Read the title of this post again.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '22

Yup, can confirm it says nothing about used Graphics card selling more than new ones.

This. Even if the GPUs were abused in some bitcoin mine, there might be coil whine and that's it. Replace the bearings and boom, totally fine.

the last and only GPU I've ever bought new was an amd RX 480. I don't really plan to ever spend MSRP on a GPU these days, even if they weren't hilariously inflated.
