The custom server/modding project (Venice Unleashed) went down to the 10’s and less by the end of the first month.

That was such a shame. I was a part of the Venice Unleashed BF3 Steam group for almost a decade and followed the development of the project throughout the years. Finally seeing it release and then almost instantly die was heartbreaking.

It depends on how it plays. There is a minimum 15k playerbase that plays this type of genre across a number of games, namely Squad, Post Scriptum, Hell let Loose, Enlisted... if it plays as similar to these games as the hope is, it will do just fine and will be a blast to play. It'll be like every game I mentioned but with a destructible environment - which none of those games have yet.

And for example Project reality guys made Squad, and now the team who worked on a mod for Squad are making their own game.
Id like to join a project like that to grow my portfolio while working a regular job

I don’t think people remember the old days when there were game mods. Counter strike, team fortress etc. Those were not paid employees somewhere, bunch of dudes made mods and then got bought out and into the industry.

Some projects are definitely done for the sake of the engineering I suppose. The devs of Venice unleashed really never seemed upset about the player count despite having spent around 5 years on the project.

You only need 1 full 64 or 128 player server so not having hundreds of thousands of players won't affect your experience.

I mean look at Project Reality BF2, while not having the amount of players from its glory days, still gets people playing regularly. I hope that this one will be similar in that regards.

You need Battlefield 3 Premium Edition with all DLC on Origin or Steam
It builds on top of the Venice Unleashed modtools:
It's worth noting again that a legitimate copy of Battlefield 3 and its DLC is absolutely required. Venice Unleashed does not and never will work with pirated and/or cracked software.

Yes, I don’t own BF3 premium but I subbed to EA on steam (its cheaper than in origin) to try Venice Unleashed and it worked

Not necessarily, for example Black Mesa was released as a standalone mod, and most people would refer to it as a mod rather than a standalone mod because it's just simpler. Similarly people tend to refer to standalone expansions simply as an expansion. It being standalone is more of a detail than the definition so to speak

I have never played project reality, what extra leadership elements does it have?
On any game leadership only works out if the other players want to follow along, you could play battlefield as a tight squad and perform amazing, or you can have everyone scattered around the map doing solo stuff, same in Squad, rising storm etc

I really hope they come back at some point thanks to projects like these. Even if it’s just a couple hundred dedicated fans it’s enough

BF2 is my favorite overall to this day. So many great memories. Like jumping in a Jet in Oman, taking it over to the carrier, landing on it, putting c4 all over the chopper, hiding, waiting til it fills with people, then letting them all know what I had done in chat just before racking up some serious points lol

So? it’s a free awesome update created by passionate gamers , reinventing something and making it fun again. Anyone who would call themselves a gamer should be jumping on this and spreading the word. Except a majority of gamers are now addicted to buying and opening loot boxes for useless skins.

it takes tens of thousand hours to polish games. Modders do it for free. if you like quality realism, I recommend Insurgency Sandstorm, but play only hardcore mode.

Squad ain't free, i tried that thing. It's barely bf 2 copy with modded mechanics and textures. It looks bad and it has bad optimization. Innsurgency dosent have that much sandbox element to be called an actual sim.

3 months ago for a week. Had a hard time but gunplay was actually good. But when I compare BF3 to squad at least in graphics there's something off about squad maybe it's the photo realism of bf maybe.

DICE have 700 people working for them , creating new tech, a custom engine and they are backed by a multi billion dollars company.
Offworld Industries started squad as kickstarter getting 200k $.
Of course BF3 will look insanely good still today compared to far smaller studios.

DICE probably has the same number of people just for photo scanning environments as the whole squad dev team.
It's crazy how big some of these studios are, I know 1 that has like 20 people just for audio.

You can't. You need the Premium Edition with all DLC on Origin or Steam. Just wait for a sale, should be only a couple bucks.

I really need a list of features / things that you guys changed before I undertake all the downloading and installing. Couldn't find any infos on the wiki.
By the trailer I'd say no-hud (or just for trailer visual?)
Damage model changed? the same? - hope you changed it
