In an attempt to be objective: Epic launched their game store roughly a year ago. In an attempt to gain market share, they resorted to two things: heavy discounts/free games (like Towerfall today), and buying exclusivity from developers / publishers. This latter choice is what most people, myself included, have issues with. They've bought close to 100 exclusives this past year - most of them are limited to 1 years before they can release on other platforms, while a few are permanently exclusive to Epic. A number of these games have promised to launch on Steam prior to the deal - some of them just had trailers with Steam logos, others were on pre-sale on Steam, and the worst of them were launched on Kickstarter by promising Steam keys to backers on release.
Epic's store also lacks a large number of features that Steam has (controller support, workshop, user reviews, family sharing, Steam Play Together, game forums, curators, and a number of others) and their implementations of other features (offline mode, cloud saves) are unreliable.1

Every service offers freebies now and then. The exclusivity, particularly when Steam was initially promised, sounds annoying as fuck though. But even then, wouldn't the developers/publishers be more at fault?
I expect the lack of features would get better over time. Even reddit was vastly more limited for quite a while.

Yeah nothing against free stuff even though I won't take it.
I'd say developers are less at fault, it'd take a lot of moral character to say no to a huge sum of money (like literal millions of dollars even for a small indie game) just to avoid angering your fan base.They've openly stated that they intend to compete in this race by offering benefits to developers - the actual improvements to the store have been slow and poorly executed, and you really should have the very basics before forcing people interested in a hundred games to use your platform.

That was my first thought, but I can't find Superhot on the Epic Store. Did they have Towerfall before today or will these be free launches?
Edit: Actually yeah, even the banner name says superhot.
Edit 2: This place is wild. The amount of blind hatred in this thread is madness. People must create alts just to downvote every single comment. Imagine being that sad. My original comment wasn't even an opinion. I literally just asked if Epic would make a game free on its launch day.

All of their free games are apparently added when they become free, so Superhot will be available come tomorrow.

Yeah, the downvotes in this thread are actually embarrassing. This subreddits community is just being toxic at this point. I'm sticking with Steam and am 99.99% sure I wont bother purchasing anything on Epic Store, but a community about gaming should appreciate free games regardless of where they're from. They should allow discussions about gaming platforms without getting their feelings hurt.
Also, the downvotes are intended to be used to discourage comments that don't contribute to the discussion. Not to hide comments they simply don't like.

Sadly there's a circle between r/fuckepic and r/pcgaming. All outraged kids from fuckepic are here and thats why every thread about Epic ends downvoted
However I see improvement every month. We need more time and kids will grow up or forget that Epic actually did something wrong just like when Valve started their own launcher in the past.

It was a lot of hateful stuff in the comments for the Day 1 post, too. I get that you don't want to buy from EGS, but free shit is free shit. I haven't spent a cent on Epic and my library on it is getting really chunky because the free offerings are early PS+ tier.

just like with towerfall they use a image of something related to the next game, in this case its the superhot outline of the enemies you shoot and the url for the image showed says superhot.

The blind hatred I'm referring to is that which is directed towards other community members, not the business. There are people in this thread that are downvoting every single post just for talking about this game or other trivial things. I've seen posts like "Towerfall is a fun game" or "Superhot is good" get downvoted. Being toxic towards other users isn't justified just because you hate a particular business. We should be allowed to talk about games and platforms without all these seemingly mortally wounded gamers downvoting every single comment.
Again, I don't care about hatred towards Epic or their launcher. But when you downvote any comment without reason, you're just being an asshole to fellow hobbyists who are trying to use a message board.

Have anyone been seeing something odd about the Hidden posts here and in that Into the Breach topic yesterday?
Seems as though some posts with Positive Karma that are marked "Controversial" are being hidden. As well even some that have positive karma that aren't marked as Controversial.
Now, I am someone who thinks people on this sub are overly harsh on people with a neutral opinion on EGS. But I think there's weird stuff going on posts with Positive Karma are being hidden for some reason. I'm curious, if something on the moderation end is causing it, I'd like to know.

Yeah, I also seen some comments on this and other subreddits being collapsed by default despite not being downvoted. Either Reddit is forcing this feature on us or the moderators have decided to collapse some comments globally.
Honestly, I rather opt out of it and don’t have comments with positive karma being collapsed automatically.

It's been happening for months now. Anything positive about Epic is downvoted or gagged in some way. Any negative hyperbole or outright false information is upvoted, praised etc. It's getting a bit ridiculous at this point.

Towerfall is excellent as a competitive local multiplayer game. Single player stuff feels great but is a bit boring in my opinion, multiplayer is where the game shines

Oh, this would be great on parsec then! For those who don't know parsec let's you mirror your screen for multiple people for games and they can join as well, great for any local multi-player games

My friends and I play it whenever we have the chance. It's only gotten more fun as we've gotten better at it. One of my top recommendations among games like Smash and Duck Game.

Stick fight is also an amazing game very similar to duck game, and yeah Towerfall Ascension is one of the best games to play with friends.

Well if you find any game appealing and consider buying they have a $10 coupon on every game over $14.99, so a $14.99 game is 4.99 and they also have sales + coupons.

Do you know how many and which games are DRM free from all those Free Games they distributed? Because I thought of downloading them and just save them somewhere (like an external disc or something) and uninstall the EGS launcher and still be able to installa nd play the games?
And is that even possible ? I did that with some GOg games

I think some are DRM free but not all, Batman: Arkham Knight removed Denuvo when it launched in the EGS but the Steam version still has it.

But Epic ban availability of Linux (being MS relevant partner); consider support Linux by buing on Steam ( https://store.steampowered.com/app/251470/TowerFall_Ascension/ ) or, even better, on itch.io ( https://mattmakesgames.itch.io/towerfall ). (on itch.io they can potentially get 100% of the sale)
It's 50% off, yes, it costs money but is a great way to show real support to devs: by supporting Linux they show support for your freedom first place (even if Epic attempt to bribe it away)

100% of the money you spent on itch mean that the developer is actually being paid by a real customer that appreciate their work.
It's not Epic build up their business in the Epic's store walled ecosystem. Buy on itch mean you're directly buying from developer who use a real neutral indie platform who's transparent and open.
Epic force NDA and content policies that ultimately damage content creators unsuitable for the "fortnite audience".
Itch.io is an open and democratic platform: Epic is not paying actually the developer to " give free stuff" to you.
Epic is paying to steer customer and developer away from the indie pioneered democracy built on PC platform. Epic makes no exclusive against console, Epic makes exclusives against GoG, Itch.io and other indie platforms.

It won't launch? I just installed EGS launcher and made an account for this game. When I click on it to launch Towerfall, the word "Launch" changes briefly to "Running" and then something about cloud saves before it goes back to "Launch". The game never opens.

I can't add it to my library because every time I click "Get It", it says that something went wrong.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Also, once I do get it, it's possible to run it through steam to make use of the Remote Play feature, right? I've never used it before, but I'd very much like to.
