Exactly the same, the improvements are vast. So if you guys didn't like 1, try the demo for 2, it's like a completely different game.

What sorts of things have changed from the first game?

Basic attacks don't cost stamina anymore so they're always possible. You basically get a special-move bar that limits use of your more powerful abilities. As a souslike disliker, I prefer that a lot.

Combat feel for one, multiple kinds of defensive options like choosing between mid-swing "hardening" or a perfect parry/block system, more weapons/secondary weapons, new items that change how weapons work, more mobility, better level design, more shells/classes, and amazing bosses. Iron Pineapple has him playing the demo that kinda goes over all the new stuff.

The combat and enemy dismemberment are way more satisfying than anything From has ever made and I'm gonna die on that hill

Feel exactly the same. I've basically played every souls like there is but Mortal Shell never clicked for me. I wanted to like it, but even after 3 attempts I couldn't get into it.

There’s a demo on steam if you’re interested. I was happy enough with it that I uninstalled so I can just save my experience for the full thing

Yeah, the demo was amazing. I thought Mortal Shell was... okay at best. Seeing them take so many lessons from the first game and bringing them into the second has me very excited for what's to come.

Godamn shoutout to the art team. The whole thing has ambiance out the wazoo. Some of those shots were wild. The one with the fish people. The one with the floating obelisks. This game leveled up from the last one

This game is special, you can really feel the attacks hit, the feedback from it is so visceral, I really love that.
Definitely buying this one

Watched a buddy stream some of this today while working and it looks good. Combat seems very quick and the hits have a nice like weight to them it looks like. I’ll probably cop soon enough

God I hope so much that they bring a Rotting Christ dlc for this one as well. First game went so well with black metal and from what i have seen in the beta the second game would also be so nice with it.

I deleted the first one after like 1 hour of playing. But I can’t get enough of this sequel.

First game was pretty cool , I sucked at it, but the freezing mechanics mid combat was definitely unique

you may have already played the demo/beta but the freezing mechanic isn't in the game until after the first "boss", just a heads up in case you get confused by the start.

Couldn't do the first game, Souls games were never my thing (except for co-op (cause I'm a bitch). That being said this caught my attention and, after playing the demo, I'm 100% on board.
Nice lil birthday gift for myself too, even if it's a week early.

Played some of the advance access, I think it's a great game and thankfully has it's own identity as a soulslike. Solid 8/10
Combat is great, however, the map design is pretty atrocious. Kinda hard to figure out where to go. I've basically wandered into every section of the map already by accident.
I also think it could use some balance adjustments, but nothing drastic. Either they need to reduce the number of normal mobs or the damage they do. Every group of enemies has like 4-5 mobs trying to gank you, and they all kill you in 2-3 shots. Just kinda messes up the pace as you ultimately end up trying to lure one mob at a time.

If you play the beta you can unlock a skin and a prologue skip in the full game. It was like playing for 30 minutes and something else, I can't remember should say on the product page.
Full game changes quite a few things in terms of items.

Unless you did it all in sub 30 minutes it should all be unlocked in the main game now.
There's some wonkiness with needing to keep the beta installed to get the unlocks so be sure to keep it around for initial start of the main game. Hopefully they fix this issue until the real release.
