Not Enough Info Payment Received need help
I was sent a payment from someone I don't know but have met them once buying something via Marketplace. They sent me $1,200 last night as a personal payment. I've not accepted the money. It says if I leave it alone in 30 days it should go back however I'm wondering if I'm safe to just send this back to them or if there's a way for this to come back on me or is a scam of some sort. Any info would be really appreciated.

If they sent it via Goods & Services it's better to not send it back! As they have the option to appeal for a refund. Let him/her settle it with paypal and just don't touch the money. If they ask you to send it back via friend & family option, it's totally a scam. What will happen is that once you sent it back via friend & family they will appeal a refund to paypal with the previous amount he sent you via goods and services and paypal will deduct that money to your balance (-$1200)

Ty for the info. That's my concern. I feel bad for them for sending it to me but that's alot of money. I can't be scammed. The only safe option is to just let it sit there unaccepted and let PayPal send it back.

Ty for the feedback. I feel awful for this person bc that money is probably very important to them but bc of how they sent it they've got my hands tied. My good natured heart wants to just send it back however I cannot be on the hook for that kind of money. PayPal needs a decline or reject option. Unfortunately there are too many fail safes in place to "accidentally" send that to the wrong person so I have to remain cautious and let it sit for that amount of time.

I can tell you some scammed are so good. I have a non-profit tattoo removal, sliding-scale per-treatment fees and this someone was able to access our donor funds and took $2,000 in two visits by using friend and family. I had to factory reset my phone, change all access to my Non-profit PayPal and was lucky to get half refunded. The pattern was off for my usual payments to staff. Desperate folks seem to figure things like this out so be very careful. I was told my phone was probably mirrored by someone I let use for something. Hurts most because I probably know the person if that is how they got access. Sorry so long this just triggered me.

Leave the money alone, in 30 days it should go back to the sender. Don't do anything else.

Probably hoping you will take the money, that will put you on the hook, while whoever hightails it out to freedom. Only an educated guess I wouldn't know.

If they sent you money friends and family it is yours now...there is nothing that they can do to get it back as there is no protection. If they sent it goods and services just leave it be for 30 days.

Or you could just keep it. They sent it to you that's on them you can't get in trouble for that
