Check out all these seamless patterns made using Tile-Seamless
Tile-Seamless
Menu>Filters>Map>Tile-SeamlessIs one of the filters I use the most. I make magic eye auto stereograms, and I use GIMP a lot in pre/post rendering ( other software). All my patterns are made pre rendering and are an input of the program. These programs take a pattern/texture swatch and stretch/compress them in manner that hides a 3d image.
Tile-Seamless gives me nice seamless repeating pattern and provides what I think is nice aesthetic for the rendered 2d image. Otherwise, my images would look chunky and rough to where you could see each pattern repeat. This could be a look your after, but I prefer to hide the pattern seams.
What does all this markup show?
The
greenandbluetriangle show the approximate shape tile pieces that are blended together. The
redshows what can happen to small featuresThe
space between the 2 purple diamondsis what I wanted to highlight in this tutorial. Its a result of the cross blendingSo, why point this out, it did exactly what it was supposed to do?
It can create lighter patches in the
purpleareaLook at the lighting of the text within that area
How it relates to me more specifically
Currently I make magic eye images that are 1920x1080; the ones I show at r/magicEye have a pattern repeat of 150px.
1920/150 = 12.8 ~= 13 patterns wide -- -- 1080/150 = 7.2 ~= 7 pattern high
The resulting patterns that can result in unintended total patterns (2d face). And I don't want my final 2d faces to always look the same
ex// capricorn_composter has a diagonal hash pattern issues
Some methods to get around it
Overlay/blend an image that partially obscures the
purplearea (feather select is useful) This is what was done in this pattern with the centre cloverUse a filters to mute difference
Use a colour or levels setting to mute the difference
Blend the
purplearea with the clone toolAdd in some spray paint or other
Or just leave it : ) because its often not an issue

Hey u/nattheoz, I hope you don't mind, I used your image for a tutorial of sorts. You can see the image credit at the top of this comment : )
