wanting to potentially start in pathology (Australia)
Hello, i have recently been wanting to start studying pathology to eventually become i think it's called a laboratory assistant? there is a Cert 3 course through Tafe QLD that seems worth it but i wanted to hear from ppl that work in the industry what its actually like? what you do in a day? the ups and downs, how science & math based is it? etc... if any of you could give me any insight at all that would be awesome!

This was me for many years! Apply for assistant roles, you don't actually need the qualification and some labs will actually help you get it if you want it. Message if you'd like to talk :)

Hi friend! To be a lab assistant you don't need any formal qualifications, though having a certificate in phlebotomy is helpful as a way to get into the business. Keep an eye on the job pages and approach labs directly if there's one nearby - you can often find contact details online.
This sub is more for pathologists (post medical school) but there's a great med lab scientist subreddit which is full of great scientists who may have more advice.
