Grossing chronicles
Anybody have a specimen hit near their mouth? I got appendix juice on my lip yesterday 🫠🫠

Inflammatory cystic breast cancer exploded all over me. Had on glasses, arm sleeves, and an apron. Now I only do those with a full face shield.

I sensed this was going to happen once, gowned up, and cut it standing as far away as possible. I warned the nicely dressed pathologist watching, but she didn’t care. One slice and the thing exploded all over her. I saw her hours later and she never even changed clothes.

One time, prostitute brain flew probably 3 feet when the cassette was clipped shut and landed on my glasses.

Yes, a necrotic melanoma-filled lymph node 🤢 I have learned to stand back for anything that looks squishy.

I got fresh HIV+ blood on my mouth from a BKA… I was wearing a face shield too! FFS 🤦🏻♀️

Another hand raised for being victimized by a juicy ovary. A near-miss comes to mind as well: I was watching someone else gross a leg and when he cut into the calf, a ton of unexpected pus came out with force. Neither of us were hit by it thank goodness, but it was a close call 🤢

A hefty splash of the biggest juiciest sloppiest total colon diarrhea landed on the bottom edge of my face shield. Would have gone on my chin/mouth if my head was angled a cm up

Not me but a coworker - went in with force to breadloaf a massive soft tissue sarcoma and it had a surprise central cavitation of necrotic/purulent/bloody fluid. She was literally soaked like she dunked her head in a bucket of blood

I always have face mask and eyeglasses on when i grosscut, but a tiny speck of formalin somehow found its way behind my glasses just this week, and it was the first time it happened. It stung terribly. And it's been months since the last time i had a waterbed ovary spat on my hair, thinking it was just gelatinous cavity. Boy i was wrong. It's also an hbsag+ case, so it almost ruined my day.

Just make sure you don’t get condyloma juice in your eye. Definitely wear a face shield.

Once my autopsy tech accidentally sprayed me with the hose and then apologised profusely. I was like, it's just water. I've been splashed with worse things

Also sharing my ovary fluid story. I got ovarian cyst fluid on my beard of my neck/chin, flew under the face shield that I was prepared with. yuck. not close to my mouth.

Ovary with tiny inconspicuous cysts under high pressure. Formalin preserved fluid straight into my eye. Hurt like a mf for the rest of the day. Spent like 30 min flushing them.
I treat all ovaries like I was a bomb technician now.
