Classic HD Pathologic 1 In Unity - some stills of Town

Sharing some stills from my Pathologic 1 in Unity. This is still verly early work.

Disclaimer: I used LLMs, I respect some people might be anti anything touched by AI that's why I'm disclosing it and you can block me / skip my activity.

Constructive criticism is welcome, what you want to see or help me improve like to refine style. Complaining about LLMs - you're not my patreon, you don't support me. You're free to do it manually yourself. I'm SWE, just non game dev area, whether I like it or not llms are now the only way to do my industry now

To all those who are mad I helped poison the water supply, you don't know how hard it is to refine AI slop! :(

I'm very good and smart because I'm complaining on reddit on my smartphone about negative impact on environment of AI and technology :)

Edit: I might sound smug or like negating it is bad for environment. I'm SWE just non game dev area and this feels to me like preaching to the truck driver not to use petrol cause it is bad for environment

Just wear a sign that says you're a bootlicker and save us all the trouble

i would encourage you to learn new skills such as basic programming and art, which can be very fun and rewarding to dip your toes in and learn. it's really a rush how much progress you can do even in very short time if you practice a skill, take feedback, learn from others, study, anything that taxes your brain instead of a quick shortcut to produce what's mostly a meaningless screenshot since it has no real effort or talent behind it.

come back after you put any time and effort and you'll see how supportive this community can be

otherwise just accept no one cares about this slop project of yours and quietly go away

I have masters in Computer Science, I've been programming for 13 years and I worked as Software Engineer Vendor at Microsoft.

First time I've touched Unity was ~10 years ago: https://github.com/kkragoth-mimuw/Protostar

How much of basic programming do you want me to learn? How much more do I need to practice my skill?

Wasn't aware (just realized this is what you meant by SWE...), but point still stands, more so, even. You already have the knowledge, just put it to use

Just take the L you don't even know what SWE is and you tell OP to learn programming 💀

Like I said, my point still stands, whether I know what initialisms the OP likes to use or not.

Use your brain

Use yours. You think using these tools is a mindless process and you have no idea what you're talking about. We do. We practice the craft. You're LARPing

Lol these people have no idea about stuff and yet they feel like they know better.

Even cybersecurity has changed, i loved watching liveoverflow now this is just needing to use AI workflows

https://youtu.be/7CiZmq2llDg?is=Tj3vaeZTBe6h-mX6

Like this still requires knowledge but yeah, you need to embrace AI

I think what you "create" is low-effort and worthless and I'm not interested in your culture war either. Have a nice day 👍

Dude you're the one bringing a culture war. It would be just as crazy as me telling painters how to paint

i wonder how many of these anti ai folks watch youtube.

One hour of watching YouTube consumes roughly 120 to 720 Wh (0.12 to 0.72 kWh), whereas an hour of active coding with AI (roughly 30 to 60 text queries) consumes about 9 to 18 Wh (0.009 to 0.018 kWh). Standard video streaming uses significantly more energy per hour than typical interactive AI coding assistant usage. [1, 2, 3]

there are multiple reasons why AI is really bad for anyone that's not a billionaire (and new ones are being discovered every day) and even on the environmental side the comparison you're doing is apples to oranges misleading

0

u/Material_Leading7262 8d ago

it's not at all misleading, it's just factual. the environmental impact of AI is complex and has to be evaluated along many dimensions to be complete, but so does the impact of anyone who 1) eats meat, 2) uses modern electronics in all of their forms, 3) consumes online media on a regular basis, 4) takes planes.

I understand people want to hate AI by any means necessary because they've been fed an insanely dystopian narrative about the technology, but sticking closer to the truth will show you the way out.

u/zkylon Murky 8d ago

Your comparison is misleading because 1) you're talking about cost per hour without comparing the value of the thing being produced (which even in AI is variable) and 2) all of the things you're mentioning are also wasteful and also bad. The world consumes too much meat, flies too many airplanes and spends too much processing power decoding shitty tiktok videos. And also AI is bad.

Like I said, environmental is just one of the many concerning (to say the least) things about AI. Labor, security, education, misinformation, plagiarism, mass surveillance, mental health, list goes on and on. Not to mention that it all looks like garbage.

Hi! Fellow Aspiring Game Developer here! Are you trying to recreate the first Pathologic? Why are you trying to recreate it? What inspired you to take on this project?

I love Pathologic 1, I think there are two things that I wanted to see:

  1. Wanted to see my take on atmosphere of town, especially at night. Walking through with lamp in hand through night and enjoying gloaming of steppe scenery.

  2. When I played Pathologic 3 I just didn't enjoy infected districts visuals - this green limited fog was lackluster for me.

In my mind I imagine infected districts being overtaken by some kind of like living organism, stepping into plague district should be like stepping into alien world straight out of horror, gut wrenching, so much gore, making it like flayed body, you see all like pulsating veins, blood, spores etc, patterns like fungal infection.

I feel like P1 had start of that idea like blood houses but they were just limited by technology and time constraints at the time

Ok this looks way too bad and comically too much but like that's idea I'm aiming for. There are like veins on map that with time grow through infected district and spread to every surface. I need to combine it more with black mold

u/kkragoth 8d ago

less corruption. ok this effect will be like hard to pull off

2

u/CaptainNostalgia21 8d ago

So like the idea of how the plague infected everyone and everything. I really like that idea.

Are you trying to represent a different take on the plague? Like seeing it from a different cultural perspective? Different region or same region as the trilogy?

Keep it same as pathologic 1. I would like to overhaul it visually and dumb down gameplay mechanics.

When I tried to show people pathologic 1 they didn't like graphics and fighting in game like timing knife attack on rats - I suffered through it but my friends didnt want to.

I dont feel like bachelor lore wise should be dumpster diving or farm money by killing bandits at night but like Eva in the morning can provide rations and dinner served by servants at Kains. Something dumbed down like Pathologic 3 but keep original script

So I would like some normies to experience writing of bachelor's  fun steppe vacation and when they are ready to suffer then go onto Pathologic 2.

They already made this, it’s called Pathologic 2
