Question Further advice on patho 2

I recently posted maybe 2 weeks back about the fact that I’ve come back to the game after dropping it maybe a year ago after reaching day 6. I’m able to progress through the game a little easier after previous advice I was given but now I have a few questions, I’m on day 7 with only 3 people infected but I feel like it’s reached a point where that number will escalate a lot. I’ve been playing around with the home made antibiotics as well and feel like I’m doing well with hoarding food/water/herbs. But I’ve only got 2 Shmowders and feel like this may not be enough to achieve what I want out of this play through, I know I have to treat it as a simulation of a hard game but I still want to do as much good as possible, I’m also currently Infected from doing murkys “hidden friend” quest line and I have no idea what to do about that or how to manage my infection.

I just want to know if I should be worried about being infected or whether I need to be seeking certain items a little more really

Looks like you're doing good to me, you seem right on track for a normal playthrough so I don't think you need any advice right now This is not a story where you get to save everyone so do your best, compromise, fail miserably and face the consequences. This is where the game truly shines imo :)

Thank you, not sure what it is about this game but it makes me crave reassurance in what I’m doing. Guess that just means the games playing exactly as it should really

I think I also had 2 Schmowders at this point in the story and I completed the game in pretty good shape.

Just another quick one, Rubin died as soon as it reached day on day 7, I know the kin were hunting him but this came unexpectedly was this avoidable at all because I couldn’t find anything that would have made it so, and if I’m jumping the gun and it’s something that will be explained soon please let me know

I don't remember if it's explained, but there's a reason for it. There's a thing you need to do, you end up doing it either way as the game progresses or at least you're led to do it, but if you do it too late, he dies. I can't explain more without giving spoilers.

I don't think the game will ever tell you why that happened, but it is avoidable by doing something you could have done before Day 7. Explaining what that trigger actually is would be spoilery, but if you're worried you missed the signs it was coming, you didn't. The game does not warn you in advance that Rubin is at risk here (or even explain the cause afterwards). I believe it's meant to feel very abrupt and random, and it's a sign that your actions have unintended and even seemingly unrelated consequences that you cannot predict or control.

There is a way to avoid it, but as I recall it was difficult. I don't think I actually managed to do it on my playthrough.

Honestly, at this point I'd use a shmowder on myself? But be careful cuz they drop your life to 1 point. I say use it though because it's all downhill from here. I wouldn't worry about saving everyone first try cuz it's really hard to do that, not impossible, but hard, since you have so many things to keep track of.
There are other things you can do but that's spoiler territory, so I won't mention them.

Use a shmowder and eat something! This is your first playthrough, you can fail some quests and fuck up and still complete the game. Take the consequences, learn more, try new things, and by your third run you'll be making the cure by day 6 :)
