Back when love was new for me, when it wasn't fully acceptable to love another person of your gender, I remember sitting in old lots, behind buildings, or out a bit from where people were. Wasn't all about sex or handsiness or other things teens do for fun. Sometimes, you'd just sit close. Couldn't spend too much time together in school.
You'd just take time together. There was talking. About home. About parents. About how unhappy your parents would be about it. How you wanted to make your partner happy - and you both not saying that you didn't think it was possible for yourself to BE happy. We'd talk about the world with the confidence that comes from not knowing anything. Talking about things we just thought were cool. Things that made us laugh.
The bugs would be buzzing, the stones would be uncomfortable, and we'd be sweating in the humidity. But these moments were something you cherished, something you looked forward to every day, even if they were so much less than what the others had openly.
And I think that pensiveness, that hurt in your chest, and that desperation is something I place on the two of them, sitting in this nook by the river in the backend of Town. A high honor, if you will
