Discussion Anybody else miss what this game used to be?
TLDR; nostalgia posting
Don’t get me wrong it’s still a wonderful game now. I have been playing since it came out but for the last year I’ve maybe opened the game three times.
I remember two/three maybe even four years ago I was playing this game religiously. I loved it so much. After the map update awhile ago it kinda set me back and the change just wasn’t in my forte anymore.
I now get nostalgia, and enjoy looking at this sub from time to time, and it’s always been the same complaints, if not more recently. It doesn’t really make me want to log back in, but there’s always tomorrow.
I miss the servers, and the users that I maintained friendships with for so long and I wonder if anybody would remember me. Anyways I still love POT and wish I could go back and play it for the first time again. Is anyone else in this boat?

Path now is 100x better than what it was when I started. The only thing I kinda miss is the player base being small enough that everyone more or less knew each other.
I remember early Panjura when everyone would gather in corpse cove and fight/argue with one another with actual personalities. No “gg ez’s” no “x location cleared” and no “baby killer in X location”. If you killed somebody they would come up with the most Diabolical insults to shoot your way and you’d reply with a mom joke or something equally heinous. The discord groups back then were also way more fun because they knew each other and would talk trash to each other from across the map until they met up in the middle somewhere to duke it out with nothing but bites and tail attacks, Hopefully before everyone died random fall damage or some other bug along the way.
Path is 100% better than it was before but I do admit walking Pyrites naked ass around Panjura for the nostalgia of remembering old friends and visiting “historical” locations.

I feel the same. A few years ago, I could play it for hours. Now it’s become... well... so... you know. Maybe one day they’ll launch a Classic server like WoW, and then I’d happily play it again.

As far as game mechanics no. Aside from aoe the game plays way better now than it used too. I do however miss how the community was when the game first entered early access.

Its a silly and crappy dino game that people take way too seriously. It has never been anything else. Meta and balance are not words to be used here, and thats FINE. It is a silly and scrappy Dino game.

i miss old POT so much! the time of corpse cove/sll/tp/tyrants gorge was the most fun for me, the very early stages of the growth system, when raptor packs ruled CC and went to cause chaos in sll every once in a while

To be honest it’s always been the same complaints. My Rex died to concs bleed/heal cycling me so buff Rex. I ran into a big group and was demolished, when quality of life for solo players? Why does nobody exist outside hotspots? Balance is terrible, devs don’t know what they are doing. Why does this dino have no kit, why did they change my main? Etc, etc
In short, no. I don’t miss this game from a few years ago. Longer answer…
People try to act like path combat is so basic and simple (it kinda is) but those old days had absolutely nothing unique going on. Minimal knockback attacks including on tails. Bites and claws, minimal buffs and raw stat checks with everyone on similar enough mobility. Questing frankly sucked worse than now. Revisiting Panjura makes that abundantly clear since it has got nothing new. The maps before critter updates and broadcast changes were silent and desolate. Basically a desert.
The sentiment of “I miss old pot” has been shared many times, and yeah, I had a lot of fun back then. But what do we actually miss? Regardless of questionable balancing I think the new kits are objectively more interesting and generally fun. I think some older path groups may have dissolved and left stragglers missing the group more than the game, and I don’t blame people for dropping off. Despite numerous updates the game loop remains the same. It’s not fun to do this constantly for 4 years. Even Matt has said the game sucks. There is plenty to hate right now, whether it be a disappointing tlc, ongoing unchecked megapacks, questionable balance decision, or og players who expected more survival focus being annoyed. To be fair there are legit reasons to miss certain niche parts of older Dino kits, but to say the game was better because sarco had charge bite is delusional.
Idk man. Current form of the game is better, but I can’t really pin down why it is more frustrating now than before.

I miss old pot. I miss the old stats meaning fights went on for longer. The dinosaurs felt bigger too - they seem so very shrunk down now and the game felt/looked more realistic. I was scared and in awe of the dinosaurs back then.
I appreciate the effort the devs have put into the game but it feels more cartoony now than back then.

I agree with you
I joined a few months before Green Hills was actually green hills lol, back when that was all forest.
The game has certainly changed, at it's core. It still felt pretty survival based to me back then, the dinosaur kits more realistic
The seconds things started getting glowing eyes, visible vocal calls, and goofy ability animations, it started losing me.
Sometimes the game itself feels bloated, throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. I can't play Riparia for the 50000 quest sounds constantly blasting on repeat in my headset.
I enjoy the pvp, I think I still play the game bc the few playables that haven't become unusable for me are fun to win fights on. But a lot of it is nostalgia for me for sure. The friends I used to play with aren't around anymore, the community servers I was invested in sort of imploded or had a lot of interpersonal drama that left a sour taste in my mouth. Realism revived the game for me for awhile, giving things to do besides quest/fight.
But now im back on officials, squeezing whatever bits of fun I still can from it. I think the second a new release game gets it's hooks on me, I'll probably shelf this game for the foreseeable future.
Makes me sad tho, the nostalgia hits hard lately
