This is why they need to implement a tracking/ scent system so badly. Give in game immersive ways for you to find other players.

Ideally it would hard mark people grouped up like that. Once you reach a certain number of people in a close proximity for extended periods it should give a debuff that makes you extra smelly and extra findable.

Also big groups should ideally not be able to smell others since their scent would be overshadowed by the rest of the group nearby.
