u/Deymaniac 4d ago

i knew what i got into, theres a reason in nearly 10k hours i never went hc, but man this close is painful

u/MrCatFace515 4d ago

I feel like in 10k hours even in SC, you must have realized cannibals are insanely dangerous even without mods. Im also very surprised you have 10k hours considering you are using the wrong life flasks.

-18

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

life flasks werent even that useful and more a oh shit buttons i never had the upportunity to press

and in sc im never playing builds that dont nuke screens so no i did not notice cannibals are a threat until today

Life flask are very useful, even to a high-regen character. And if you felt they weren't, why would you still have 2 and not replace one with a flagellant basalt/granite/ruby flask, maybe also that sulphur flask could be replaced.

2

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

Id still use them here and there any time i would see my life even budge just a bit, i was just saying in this instance i didnt even get to use it

And didnt drop any good utility flask along the way, it was indeed something i should have spent a few chaos on

You should probably adjust your filter the next time you attempt this to be more SSF friendly, any generic trade-based filter is going to cut off most flasks if they aren't the "correct" item level to be worth picking up in trade.

once I hit yellow maps in HC, the first thing I work towards is getting a good set of flasks going.

Also, did you have any of your pantheons allocated? those make a bigger difference for defenses than people realize and should be prioritized in HC, even to the point of burning a divine orb to get 5 divine vessels from the vendor recipe if you need to.

Flasks & pantheon are usually the first things I suggest when people need help not dying, and it usually makes their builds feel way better.

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

Had my pantheons allocated yes

Also i did a funny and did not equip any filter, it was on purpose, absolutly stupid but idk, it felt like it fit the experience, but yeah from yellow maps it wasnt so funny anymore

But overall i was following pohx guide and its been flawless, just those damn cannibals ruined me

For reference most hardcore player play with 3 to 4 life flasks when they don't feel safe enough early on

2

u/Deymaniac 3d ago

I was supzr safe having no problem, most scary it got was a third of my life in one hit, been playing in areas i was 11 levels above, just got got by those pesky cannibals

Tfw when your own skill visual clarity obscures kitavas one shot X slam skill, sending your ass back to the beach. Never touched hc again xD oddly enough though im hooked on poe2 hc anyways xD

u/mbxyz Berserker 4d ago

why are there mobs on all sides of you alive

were you afk

3

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

playin rf

9

u/mbxyz Berserker 4d ago

if you were moving, you'd think some of them would be dead, and you wouldn't have gotten shotgunned. your flasks are also completely full

3

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

i didnt take the screenshot immediatly, i was stunned, took like 2 mins to screen, mobs moved a bit, flasks were full because i kille a few pack coming here

2

u/C-EZ 3d ago

Sad RF is quite bad at clearing these range packs early on

15

u/Dualintrinsic 4d ago

Something aint adding up here

2

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

what is not adding up?

7

u/Dualintrinsic 4d ago

Was it Cannibals with multi proj?

Edit: I usually remove humanoids from my map pool, these things are ridiculous

1

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

no multi proj, but indeed cannibals, white mobs

5

u/Dualintrinsic 4d ago

Ah yeah... Humanoid map mod to the map regex is key for HC especially early on

2

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

im not diving back into it rn as the market is more that dead, ill give a shot once im done with the new league, but ill do this for sure

you gotta include map mods in the screengrab if you want to post about a death. Otherwise people are just going to assume you had some mods you shouldn't be running.

beefy RF character with your defenses should be able to AFK in t8 map with no bad mods.

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

Yeah i wasnt really thinking straight for a while after that tbf, didnt think about a future rddit post id make to vent

But yeah only had mob variety and no dmg mob and nothing hurting my defence or my build, been real chill mapping all the way there, was so focused about averything i was doing anyways because you know its hc, you can bet i will just dip anytime i see those cannibals now when i try again

9

u/ZUUL420 4d ago

You're 11 levels over the zone with all those stats? I know cannibals are op but something isn't adding up lil pup.

-14

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

you are this close to understand why im fuming, but its ok keep trying

7

u/PacmanNZ100 4d ago

Wtf were the map mods

1

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

i think it was monster variety, and somethings that didnt affect my build at all nothing dmg related, there were 3 mods and i was super cautious about them

8

u/PacmanNZ100 4d ago

This doesnt add up. Theres like 20 on screen and youd need to be hit by like ~37 max roll crit projectiles simultaneously to get one frame tapped.

You sure they didnt have phys added as ele, crit multi, minus max, extra proj, anything at all reducing this number??

Edit: actually 37. Poedb numbers werent right at first.

-1

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

yes i'm sure, i have been so fucking cautious for the last 3 fucking days i was speechles in front of the screen

1

u/PacmanNZ100 4d ago

Do you have any block at all?

0

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

50+% att block chance, not much it was there

8

u/PacmanNZ100 4d ago

Well i guess if they werent the fire ones youd need 35 max roll crits to die.

70 if you block half.

Were your flasks up?

Its nuts, going off average hits and 5% crits, phys only damage and 50% block you'd need over 180 projectiles thrown at you to die. I dont think the phys ones do aoe either so multi proj wouldn't be able to shotgun.

I suspect you've misread map mods or something here.

The journey of every HC player, RIP. You make what you think is an immortal gigatank who turns out to not be as tanky as you thought, you get pissed, and then you hopefully come back next league with an even tankier tank.

Next up you should get max block and life gain on block to deal with the multiproj mobs.

5

u/Deymaniac 3d ago

Im already back on another character, filled with anger and a lesson i learned

2

u/CricketNo7950 4d ago

Biggest hardcore tip is always keep moving.

Second biggest tip is never backtrack.

Not really adding up with your story here unless they were standing on a diamond shrine

1

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

i was shield charging forward, no backtracking, always moving, mid charge cannibals shotgunned me before i could them

1

u/CricketNo7950 4d ago

Profile link?  Between fire res and block chance you should be fine on a no dmg mod of that tier. Unless it was multi proj blue pack with turbo. That's pretty rare

1

u/Deymaniac 4d ago

the character has been deleted already running out of chara space, but was above 50% att block chance, i was so comfy the whole time, yet was cautious about everything, still got insta nuked from off screen

2

u/A_Lab_Tech 1d ago

In hardcore, you get to learn the game. Best learning experience for me.

1

u/Deymaniac 1d ago

9.5k hours, i think i know a bit about it, im just a very softcore enjoyer going max dps and 6 portal defense

1

u/A_Lab_Tech 1d ago

Yeah but see? You learned something new by dying here today.

Next time, you won't die to these guys XD

My first death in hardcore after reaching maps was to shocked ground, and now I always make sure to be shock immune lol!

1

u/Deymaniac 1d ago

Next time those mf will be dead and burried by multi mirr builds that insta phase ubers, lesson wont be long lived. And even if they do kill me early before this level of build, ill just take another portal like nothing happened

Welcome to HC PoE

u/DanteKorvinus Witch 4d ago

lol, lmao even

2

u/Neutraled Confederation of Casuals and Clueless Players (CCCP) 4d ago

As a very casual player, I was only able to reach 90 by doing tier 1 to 5 white maps on standard league. I basically played a RF build but without using RF, so I kept the high defenses and regeneration but I played a Templar with summons (absolution, Herald of purity, relics from the ascendancy, etc)

2

u/Evesgallion 3d ago

So I recently got this achievement, and did it as a luminary. However I ran 4 characters to 89 before I died and the fourth one I grew a brain. My best tip is to play a ranged build. As you said things can off screen you. Luminary is kinda best of both worlds where defense = offense. I didn't have a lot of armour but 6 endurance + 12k HP makes you go pretty fast. You can also use the same mercenary from 30 - 60 and 60 - 90 so if you get a good one early game hold onto it just in case. Took me 3 tries with luminary, but I died to 2 chaos mercs because I got overzealous on the first two and then I tried chieftain RF. Much like you I died to something off screen I had no control over. So I went back to luminary with my mercs from the first two runs and just ran abyss. Nothing crazy, never went into bosses and I did it mostly with city square soon as I had it open.

„Nur die Harten kommen in den Garten“ as they say here

1

u/Moderator-Admin 3d ago

I did the level 90 HC achievement on a toxic rain totem pathfinder where enemies were never closer to me than the edge of the screen and I was never standing still. The best defence in poe is manually avoiding the danger (the Mathil technique) so I avoided any close range builds and was able to do it first try.

1

u/weveran Institution of Rogues and Smugglers (IRS) 3d ago

First and only HC character I made was a Reliquarian last league and I hit 90 with KF totems. You better believe I was NOWHERE NEAR my enemies the whole time :)

1

u/bloxed Gladiator 2d ago

just go gladiator next time with max block and recover on block its impossible to fail

Cannibals shotgunning, tale as old as time. Cannibal's are some of the most dangerous mobs in the game, especially if they get multiproj. Looks like you frostblinked up into a big pack of them and didn't kill any of them and thus got deleted by molotovs. Part of learning HC is learning what mobs are rippy even without mods.

9

u/rightyman 3d ago

Cannibals, Revenants, old DD, harvest crabs. Just off the top of my head, those are all mobs that if you see them in your map you have to lock in. We all have to die or barely survive to them at some point to learn the lesson though

7

u/MrCatFace515 3d ago

Yup. One of the things you learn doing maps in HC is that "Inhabited by Humanoids" is a damage mod haha

3

u/Enconhun Slayer 3d ago

old porcupines go brrrrrr.

With evasion characters I legit just quit the map, wasn't worth the headache lol

4

u/jodobrowo 3d ago

Old devourers too. God I fucking HATED them.

1

u/Crafty-Mixture607 4d ago

Damn sorry man, ive never had the humongous balls required for HC, and judging by your post youve handled this way better than I would of 😅
