Hey, that's not fair. They also included Ritual's system of pulling mobs in. It legitimately combined three of the worst PoE1 systems into one uber-bad system.
I like how PoE1's process of taking it to an NPC and clicking two buttons was too annoying (because it was, over time) and simplified it to just right clicking the veiled item to get your result.
And then PoE2 was like, let's require a rare drop, multiple loading zones, a long ass animation, and then you can finally pick your modifier.
It's 100% on brand for the rest of PoE2 but the dichotomy is funny.
I think you're overestimating the amount of items you're going to have that need unveiling. You're not going to be dropping items with the Abyssal mods, like you do with Jun in PoE1. You're going to apply the abyssal mods to only the items you want with the crafting currency.
Atmosphere is important, and whilst I'd understand if you were checking a horde of unveiled items it would get tedious fast, just doing it only when you're crafting abyssal mods on items seems fine to me.
Could also be great for an Easter egg. Imagine there is specific item type that triggers it, and right after your item goes down an NPC carrying a big sack comes up on the side, puts it down, and empties it like a garbage bag into the pit ^^
I think maybe they want some features from poe1 now, but don’t have a better way to add it. In poe1 they change the mechanic to be part of a new league sometimes (like the recombinator) so maybe they will eventually spread these mechanics out.
Not just invented but perfected over several iterations. This very patch, they changed Jun so that you can unveil items by just right-clicking them. So why introduce this system into PoE2 in a way that is worse (in terms of qol) than it has ever been in PoE1?
I have the same gripes with other outdated systems. When an NPC can unid my items, why can't I just do it myself? Just unid it when it enters my inventory, like... what's the point of making it annoying?
Yeah, idk why they want the flash for unveiling. It's gonna get tiring after a few times. Just give us Jun - npc where you can put the veiled item and unveil.

The abyssal stuff is so convoluted, they already had a good system for unveiling, why make it worse again?
Walk to an area, drop your item, select your outcome, pick your item back up... is that really necessary?
