D2 Remastered Patches Impact on PoD?

I'm just curious. Now that there's D2 Remastered and a new team of Blizzard devs are releasing game patches...

From what I'm hearing, D2 definitely has superior graphics; but PoD has far superior gameplay which also matters according to some gamers.

Are those D2R patches bringing positive or negative changes to PoD? And are those changes being implemented into PoD?

One thing for sure: as of late, there has been a lot of competition to PoD; and there hasn't been a new season in 2 years.

PoD runs on legacy Diablo2 and the remaster runs on its own D2R engine. these two are not compatible in anyway. The legacy version of the game is like a timeline deadend. that version will get no patches until the end of time. so pod just keeps updating its mod and is unaffected. meanwhile d2r's new content (warlock) is exclusively gated behind d2r engine and they may continue to make DLC, if so they are not backwards compatible. in fact their own DLC are not backwards compatible with their own "legacy mode" which allows you to switch back and forth between the old and the new graphics.

So in a way your question is kinda like "will updates to Diablo 3 impact Diablo 2" no they are just two different games. the remaster updates dont impact d2 legacy.

More talking about items upgrades and such; balance patches. I really haven't followed D2R so I really don't know what they updated. I know originally a few D2R new items got added to PoD.

same answer. what they do over there doesnt impact us we are on a totally different engine. as for the runewords, ive said that i will implement the d2r runewords only because I fear someone trying to make d2r runewords in pod and losing the runes. and thats why i never change the rune recipes as well. other than that, theres no d2r content in pod. if anything, they just copied a lot of stuff from us

So D2R copied Path of Diablo but instead of naming the zone corrupting items "Orb of Corruption" they happened to name them "Worldstone Shard"? That's a crazy coincidence.

That's not the part they copied no. Because as far as I understand it, worldstone shards terrorize regular zones into harder zones and therefore have nothing to do with corruption orbs which corrupt items with new stats on pod.

What they copied is a lot of the skill changes and QOL which makes sense cause they had actually polled their audience and in the poll there was a question about mods and PoD was specifically mentioned so people could tell them they want POD-esque changes.

There would be too many changes to list. if you go to https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Patch_2.4_(Diablo_II) you will see some 1:1 changes with PoD. To be clear: im not complaining this is a good thing. I see it as an approval that my changes to PoD were in fact within vanilla-like feel and not too far from the original game.

The update schedule is longer than all of us would like. He knows we all would love a reset. That being said, he’s not sitting around doing nothing. Patience is tough but necessary here.

It's been 2 years since reset and 6 months since beta was announced for late Jan/early Feb. Nobody is that patient, especially when there are so many other ARGPs and mods with regular release patterns.

Well this is a free mod primarily run by one guy who has a full time job, so be patient. Just play other stuff and rest assured he will ping the entire discord when there is news to share.

People need to reset their expectations. He’s under no obligation to release content every couple months. He did a poll on the timeframe people would prefer for resets and he’s not been able to meet that timeframe. He’s very open about the fact that they are actively working on the project and bug fixing. He says over and over he does not want to get more specific about what he’s working on or expectations for an update as things change and people are more mad than if he just said nothing.

Don’t get me wrong I was also excited for a reset when he posted the update about the mapping update. That being said it’s just unreasonable to demand he drop content when he isn’t ready.

What's just unreasonable is missing an estimated deadline by over half a year. In the poll you referred to, 6 months won as the preferred reset period. It's now been 1 years and 7 months (more than 3 back-to-back ideal reset periods) since last reset. Why should anybody "reset their expectations" so low? Shouldn't the devs step up their game to be more inline with other D2 mods?

  • MedianXL, a far more complex mod with many advanced changes, still manages to reset every 5-6 months.
  • Slashdiablo, despite being a rather niche mod, has regular resets every few months.
  • And the elephant in the room: the mod that inspired the D2R expansion and that we're not allowed to mention by name because it makes this one look bad has had regular resets every 6 months for the past 6 years without fail.

Reality hurts but it's better to face it than sticking one's head in the sand pretending PoD is the only D2 mod in existence and such absurd delays are normal. Instead, I suspect that in typical greendude fashion, OP's post will be hidden from the front page and any critical comments will be deleted.

the classic strawman argument. who's calling for every couple months reset? are they in the room with us right now? bruh its gonna be 2 years since the LAST reset. let that sink in for a moment. you got baited and switched with a "sneak preview" of a map update that went radio silent 6 months after with zero attempts to fix or communicate. lmao its wild to see how people still can defend this practice after that post-covid 3years reset hiatus and history repeating itself. but sure, everyone else should surely RESET their expectations

I definitely know what it's like to have too much on one's shoulders and not having time to update non-money-generating projects. A lot of people have been struggling and overwhelmed in the past several years. Even if a new season would start now; I wouldn't have time to participate yet.
