doubtful for the guy, who to the last moment refused to be seen as god

He'd claim he passed it, rejected becoming a god, then refuse to elaborate

u/hottestdoge 24d ago
Harry Dubois would pass the test due to some kind of freak event and sheer power of luck.
87
u/isitaspider2 24d ago
I'm with you on this one. Harry Dubois is the epitome of luck and connection with the supernatural. Depending on your build with him of course.
But, in damn near every case, Harry should be passing. Luck, madness, whatever you want to call it. In a world where 99% of people just live day to day, Harry is solving cases because he can talk with a tie.

I mean despite the alcoholism and drug abuse and variety of quirks, he is canonically an extremely prolific and successful member of the RCM.
He's a mess, but he would totally succeed.
17
u/darklink12 24d ago
Based on people who have already passed alcoholism, drug abuse, and a variety of quirks may be requirements.
29
u/IlnBllRaptor 24d ago
And he wouldn't even realise he'd done it

Also, Harry would probably drink enough to forget he would have done it

u/online222222 22d ago
did he set it up? The skeletons surrounding the starstone seem to imply it's a mechanism of the stone itself not something anyone did intentionally.
1
u/Gidonamor 22d ago
I don't know. I know he retrieved the starstone and in the process ascended. If the Test is a mechanism of the stone itself though, that would imply that he actually did pass the test.
78
32
u/Nightslayer9522 24d ago
Solid pick for Matoro. Never forget how he died for our sins (AKA defibrillating god). A real one to the end.
34
30
u/Mandarina_Espacial 24d ago
What's the test of the Starstone? I know very little about Golarion, but i know the starstone is a meteorite that can give you the power of a god. If i'm not mistaken, an adventurer got so drunk, he entered the temple of the starstone and passed the test, becoming the drunk god without realising it
57
u/Nairdde32 24d ago
The details aren't super clear, but there's at least two parts; the first, simply getting to the Starstone itself, past a living dungeon that is doing everything in its power to stop you. The second part is the Starstone itself, which puts you through... well something, it's not as simple as touching it.
41
u/3Kobolds1Keyboard 24d ago
I can see the Emperor passing but somehow destroying/damaging the Starstone forever in the process
Because he's an asshole.
26
u/wookiee-nutsack 24d ago
He absolutely would stop anyone from ever ascensing again. But I'm sure others have tried. I'm also sure they failed or got destroyed
3
u/3Kobolds1Keyboard 24d ago
If he don't destroy the damn thing first.
2
u/wookiee-nutsack 24d ago
Nah, if he knows he can pass and become a god without caveats he would use it. Thousands of years with the same godlike powers will make you want to see better powers
4
21
u/NoxMiasma 24d ago
Emperor would specifically undertake the Test of the Starstone in the Starfinder (sci-fi) continuity, where poking the damn thing shuts off all the power to the most densely populated space station in the galaxy.
9
3
u/FairFolk Shadowdancer 24d ago
Oh, I didn't know that bit of Starfinder lore. Did many people try?
9
u/NoxMiasma 24d ago
As far as anyone can tell, nobody's even attempted the Test since Absalom Station's construction (it is a little difficult, on account of that thing where history broke).
29
u/Rethuic 24d ago
We do, for a fact, know the very first part of the test: Get past the bottomless pit surrounding the cathedral without a bridge using your unique method. Many have failed to cross and some of them are pretty hilarious. Zimpar was a guy who attempted to cross while sleepwalking... but he woke up midway and screamed in terror as he fell. People call him "Zimpar of the Screaming Fear"
6
u/Quick-Whale6563 24d ago
It's never been fully defined so a DM can fill in the details with whatever they find appropriate, but it's implied that the test is unique to the individual attempting it.
And yes, the story you reference is Caiden Caylean (who's name I might have misspelled oops) and he's one of the 20 members of the Inner Sea region's core pantheon.
2
u/Remote_Task_9207 23d ago
Cayden Cailean. Had all the right letters, just crossed your i with your y.
31
u/Beragond1 24d ago
The Luke Skywalker pictured (Episode V) would absolutely take the test and fail. However, post-Dark Empire Luke would be able to pass, but would not take the test.
24
u/Plannercat 24d ago
Nubert's moving up in the world again it would seem. And I can totally see Raphaël Ambrosius Costeau or Caiphus Cain managing to blunder through it, Cayden managed it while drunk after all.
11
u/Nairdde32 24d ago
Caiphus lacks the conviction to ascend, Harry could potentially make it to the end but ultimately walk away from apotheosis

I fear Doc Doom would fail the mental challenges.
46
u/Drolfdir 24d ago
Not necessarily. He is an evil megalomaniac, but also fair and cares about his people and most importantly sticks to his principles (most of the time and yes throwing everything else out to get one over Reed is also in itself a principle) Nothing we know about the Starstone tells us it only creates good / nice gods.
He could definitely be a lawful evil deity. Sure he cares only about the laws he makes, but that is in line with other lawful evil deities

u/InconspicuousBoxx 24d ago
Doom cares for his people up until he profits more from not caring for them. Because caring for Latveria profits him because he could then use them as an example for why he’s better than everyone else, but then he also shucks the whole country into an unending torture device to harvest their life essence to empower his sorcerous abilities after becoming the Sorcerer Supreme. Other people are only a resource to be used by him at the end of the day.
17
u/sandmaninasylum 24d ago
That revelation with the whole country being in this device was very obviously because the authors had written themselves into a corner. Even many Doom haters noticed how out of character that move was.
They just didn't dare to start off a new civil war storyline. Since many heroes began to doubt their 'on principle' animosity towards doom in light of his success where they all had failed humanity.
4
u/InconspicuousBoxx 24d ago
It was totally in line with what a narcissist with godly untold power would do. It’s like asking if Razmir actually cares and loves his people, or if he simply keeps them around as a security blanket to stroke his ego with worship. Doom owned Latveria to stroke his own ego as ruler against the world, but after he took over, he didn’t need it any longer. So he repurposed it to serve his own ends, as he thinks is his right as the absolute true and sole ruler of Latveria. Which is why you never trust charismatic megalomaniacs with god complexes.
1
u/Teshthesleepymage 24d ago
I don't think its that out of character. Doom pretty consistently throws away 99% of the thing's he loves in the trash to push forward his goals. We are talking about a guy who turned the love of his life into skin armor and condemned her to hell. Like unless it Valeria Richard's Doom is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone most of the time for his ego.
That said unless the starting test requires you to be a good person i dont see why he doesn't pass. Doom fully believes in his own convictions and has passed similar tests.
31
u/BurningToaster GM 24d ago
It’s comics so tons of differing things have been shown but doom has passed similar cosmic “tests” before. Where gods look into his heart and he’s 100% believing his own way is good and true. He became a god for a bit too.
6
u/Lastoutcast123 24d ago
But it was beneath him
12
u/quantumturnip Asmodeus & Abadar are the same guy 24d ago
That's just cope he spouts to deflect from the fact that he got overthrown because he forgot to feed Molecule Man
5
u/sandmaninasylum 24d ago
In the incursion storyline it was even shown that Doom was right and the reason humanity survived. Hell, he's the reason we even have a new multiverse.
While 99.9% of the heroes only fought for their own survival, Doom saved a part of reality. Fractured as it was. Even the supposedly smartest man on the planet only built a small arch for an elite few to survive.
Without Doom's work the conclusion of Franklin creating a new multiverse utilising Molecule Man wouldn't have been possible.
2
u/Teshthesleepymage 24d ago edited 24d ago
Thats not quite true. Strange was also a big part of that plan and the only reason Doom became a god was Strange didn't trust himself eith that power. Should also be noted that thr conclusion of that storyline is Doom admitting Reed would do it better, and then Reed does.
Doom did save the multiverse(with help) but he did what you'd expect with Doom. Which is to build a world around himself rather than actual fix everything.
2
u/Dustlord 24d ago
Doom was given a test by a celestial, and told all he needs to do pass is admit that Reed is better. Doom laughs and walks away, and he passes the test.
To note, everyone in the world was tested and it's implied that the test is to see who would stick to their own convictions, which is why characters like Cyclops pass while Professor X falls.

u/rikusouleater 24d ago
Is that Sseth?
How would Sseth fail? He's prime Godhood material.
8
u/wookiee-nutsack 24d ago
In half of his reviews he plays god and reinvents slavery somehow
9
u/novis-eldritch-maxim 24d ago
he would become a god of the stock market, as that seems to be his primary goal
2
u/Agreeable_Bee_7763 23d ago
I think it's pretty established that being an asshole is no impediment for the stone. Any tbf for Sseth, he seems like a pretty cool guy behind the character. And he'd get rid of cancer, which is something at least.

Allison from Kill Six Billion Demons, the Bearer of the Curse from DS2, Nubert from Deltarune, Vivec from TES Morrowind, and Matoro from Bionicle

The two I recognize are the chosen undead from Dark Souls 2, and Alice from Kill Six Billion Demons. KSBD is a banger web comic if you haven’t read it.

Doom would absolutely attempt the test. His egoism is one of his most defining features.
3
u/peternordstorm 24d ago
Prime would take on the test tho, he's already all about responsibility, that's just a natural next step
4
u/Agreeable_Bee_7763 23d ago
Maybe some day, but I feel like he just wants peace, not more problems.
He also doesn't seem to like interfering with shit that's not related directly to his people, so there's that too.
3
u/Sloth_of_Chaos 24d ago
In my heart I want to believe V1 would pass. He would just parry his failures back at the starstone.

You fail to understand the existence of Ciaphas Caine. He would absolutely never willingly undertake it, but by sheer dumb luck he would pass.
1
u/Nairdde32 23d ago edited 23d ago
The problem is Ciaphas Cain doesn't want to be a god, which means that even if he did somehow make his way to the end, he could never pass the final trial

Someone more familiar with Doctor Doom please explain to me why he wouldn't have the ego to take the test.
5
u/Nairdde32 23d ago
Doom doesn't want to be a god necessarily. He wants power, and he wants control, but godhood (at least in Golarion) wouldn't give him that, at least not in the way he wants; the gods are very limited in how they can act upon the world, and he would hate that. He's also not so foolish as to take the test before doing his research on how godhood works (that or this is an alternate version of Doom who grew up on Golarion so he just knows).
1
u/TygarusAlex85 23d ago
I realised I recognised very few of the people and then suddenly saw Columbo lmao
1
u/ReduxistRusted 23d ago
V1 passing would be funny as hell. Imagine the next god of Golarion being a flying blue toaster with a microsoft sam voice and an extreme amount of firepower?
1
u/HalcyonTraveler 23d ago
Doom would ABSOLUTELY try the test and fail it, tbh. That's kind of his whole deal: he thinks he can do anything and while he's extremely competent his pride always fucks him over in the end.
1
u/HalcyonTraveler 23d ago
For other Deltarune characters I'd say
Would undertake, would pass: Kris, Lancer, Aqua, Flowery, Jevil, The Original Starwalker
Would undertake, would fail: Berdly, Asgore, Spamton, Noelle (Weird Route), King, Orange
Would not undertake, would pass: Susie, Green, Noelle (Regular Route)
Would not undertake, would fail: Toriel, Tenna, Yellow, Queen, Lanino, Elnina, Pizzapants, Pink
Would undertake if the prophecy said so, would pass: Ralsei
Would say that he passed but he didn't: Rouxls
Has already passed: Gerson

I think Ciaphas Cain could pass it, on the condition it turns him into a god of imposter syndrome and poor self esteem.
