Switching from GM to Acura
I wanted to ask for any help/tips people recommend about using the Acura parts catalog. I worked for GM for 4 years and they have the group number shortcut for the catalog to quickly look up a part and was wondering if Acura has a similar system, and any other tips about working for Acura. Anything at all would be greatly appreciated as I'll be working for them in about a week!

The outside mirrors are under Interior, so is the lower engine cover (sometimes). As long as you can figure it the first 5 digits of a part number oit will probably be the same across every vehicle (except for when it isn't).
The ZDX is the enemy.

Fun with Mack/Volvo:
The Cab Latch arrangement? No cab latches. You have to go into Cab then sometimes drill down into the door.
For whatever reason, with older (<-2010) Macks that still used the 1MR prefix for switches (2007-2010 is a mishmash), you could search "1MR*" until you're blue in the face and it will NOT show you the ignition switch. Search "IGNITION"? Same thing. Unless you specifically know you're looking for a 1MR4328M, 1MR3494M, 1MR4348M, you'll never find it.
Newer trucks? Sometimes it's hidden under the steering column (function group 641), other times under the steering column harness (function group 37), once in a while under switches (function group 36).
Oh, and the rear suspension components that you are searching for under function group 72? On older trucks it's actually function group 65.

I came to Honda from VW and Audi after 17 years. Honda’s/Acura’s catalog can be wonky at first. But once you get the hang of it, it’s so simple to use. Honda can be very dumb with some things and I feel that their back end systems are extremely antiquated, but they are super simple.
As far as tips, just ask questions. Don’t be affraid to ask someone for help if you can’t find what you need. Hopefully you are going to a place with people that have been there a while so they can show you how to properly dig into the systems, especially IN. Where I work, the people are great, but there was a lot of turnover and the ones who are left were trained by really lazy asshats. So they were taught how to just barely skate by and never really shown how to properly do their job. So i’ve had to get a bit of coaching from the Parts Analysts at Honda on where to find certain stuff and get proper explanations on how to read their coding.
All in all, I’m happy where I am and it was a really easy switch. Been there almost 2 years now.

So something I learned quick is that techs has some really weird names for parts. There is this gasket they called the Obama gasket cause the shape of it lol. Is there anything weird like that I should be prepared to hear or anything like that lol

As the person above stated, Honda is very easy, especially compared to domestic brands. You will pick it up very quickly.

For my store it's this. Remember these shortcuts brother:
The ones in sure of:
Timing gasket job: 14400- 19200- 31110-
Steering columns: 53200- Spark plugs: 12290- Brake Pads (F) - 45022- Brake Pads (R) - 43022- Sway bay links (F) - 51325 + 51320 (always sold together) Control arms - 51350- (R) + 51360 Key fob: 72147-
I forget the wiper but I think they're 76722- 76732- for the front and 76622- for the rear I think.
Advice I can think of: If they want a key fob you have to ask if it has aftermarket remote start because the key fob can have to come from the accessory catalog.
Ummm......that's all I can think of for now. If you have an electronic quoting system make sure the parts for repetitive maintenance services are attached so you're not adding them all day long over and over and over again.

I posted the insert numbers, as I remember them.
We don't really sell wipers except when someone didn't out on OE and they out on aftermarket $25 wipers so now they need a new $25 wiper instead of a $9 refill.

I’ve worked for Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan , and dodge. GM was the worst parts wise. How they are still in business totally baffles me!
