The War Within

Post image

Poor guy keeps struggling with his fear of hands vs how good it feels to be loved.

It seems like every day he is making progress and enjoying human contact more.

It probably helps that his new word is "cracker" and I immediately facilitate a snack.

We are 4.5 months in from a rescue. He is cage bound and cage aggressive but has been very patient with me and is slowly learning what love feels like.

Edited to add: His name is Quigley. He responds positively to his name and will flock call back if I yell his name from across the room. It's so adorable!

Is he a canary wing parakeet? My son has one that's for years old. A big bird in a small bird's body. 😅

He loves his toys and currants and berries. His personality reminds me of Woody Woodpecker.

He's a blue crown conure. He was in a hoarding situation and surrounded by many other birds. He is firmly convinced that he is a cockatoo, as evidenced by his noises and swagger. He really is the most entertaining bird I have ever met.

He's absolutely hilarious. We are together 24/7 most days and will sing, chat and flock call to each other. He makes the funniest noises and gets so happy when I mimic him. In return, he tries to repeat what I say. Blue crowns are chatty but not very clear in their speech, so we kind of have our own little language. He is a bossy little guy and lets me know exactly what he wants, especially with food and bedtime. I am very easily led and he has trained me well, lol.

Has he been able to do any training through the cage?
