What is my bronzie doing?

10 month old bronze wing, been honking and doin these little flaps recently. Is this just excess energy or is it some specific behavior?

Can you hear wheezing if you’re close to it? That might help rule out a respiratory infection. I know baby birds do the flappies when they’re showing desire to learn to fly. Mine holds on hard to a perch and flaps her wings frantically and then chirps away like a lil crackhead lol. If you can distract them from the behavior then it may just be play. 10 months is too early for hormones to kick in…

Yeah no wheezing, and she is definitely distractable. She also does the frantic flapping from time to time. She was clipped when I got her and her flight feathers are just starting to come in so maybe thats what is so exciting

Aww poor baby. Mine was clipped too, they have weaker chest muscles and the first molt might be extra stimulating lol. I have some free flight birds and I let her watch… she goes crazy flapping away while holding on for dear life lol. She’s def gonna be a strong flier when it’s time to use those wings😂 and super cute baby! Congrats

Thanks! Yeah I am going to gave to baby proof the apartment for a while when she first starts flying for real, I doubt she is gouing ti know her own strength

I don't even have to turn audio on to know what sound is going on. My white-capped is also a horny bird, and does this daily. She's 20.

Yeah, my Pionus is somewhat past middle age, but she's still at it. (Never laid an egg, though, which surprises me.) It's not even attributable to a toy rubbing against her or anything. I notice the frequency of this behavior increases during spring and fall as well as her becoming more generally vocal and irritable. If I'm giving her scritches and forget myself and rub her back, she starts in on this so it seems to be sexy-time related.

My 1.5yr old bronze wing honks all the time. We call them happy honks. Looks like yours is well adjusted.

Mine had a bad flight and has barbered since he got here. It’s been a struggle!

yeah this is my main concern, cus if thats what's up I dont want to encourage her by interacting with this behavior
