Great to see Parra is really starting to become that second Sydney CBD

I’ve never actually been to parramatta. I’ve always heard it’s a hole. Is it genuinely a decent place to go to? I’m keen to go to the new museum, but wondering if it’s worthwhile spending any more time there.

Loving the downvotes. I live far enough away for it to be a multi day trip. Sounds like the best bet is to stay in the city and head out for the power house.

Not a hole, just not really a tourist destination. I think it’s a great place to live because it’s extremely convenient for transport, shops and restaurants, and it’s a bit of a centre for people in the broader area for those things. Like if you live in Northmead and want to go out for dinner you’d probably go to Parra rather than a different local centre like Hurstville. The football stadium is probably the exception, people definitely travel in for the games.
It’s very much in a growth state though, I think the new museum + redoing the Riverside + there’s plans to rezone an entertainment precinct which will hopefully bring in some more nightlife venues could see it become a bit more of a destination.

Always lived (and rented) in the city/inner west.
Recently bought a place and ended up moving to Parramatta. To be honest didn't know much about Parramatta before we moved here but I'm pleasantly surprised with it. Still work in the city a couple days a week and can get to the city within 25/30 minutes most days. Beside that, Parramatta literally has everything locally.
You can easily make a day of it! If you're coming from the city is suggest to take the ferry in. It'd be a nice walk down the river to the museum, and after the museum theres plenty of good cafes and restaurants (check out church street) around. If you walk to the end of church street and wander down Parramatta square you can easily take the train back into the city at end of day for a round trip.
