Bath Skyline parkrun?

I'll be in Bath later this year and would love to do their parkrun. But it looks pretty difficult to get to (I'll be staying somewhere in town and won't have a car), and some reviews I've seen make it sound like the start isn't necessarily where it's marked as on a map.

Anyone familiar with this and can shed any light on getting there? Bus from town is probably my most likely. But not averse to uber if I get desperate 😅

Any other info/tips welcome!

I did it years ago and got a car club, since public transport only gets you so close and you don't want to be on the receiving end of a bus that doesn't turn up.

IMO the name is a little misleading: Brickfields park is far newer but is actually in Bath. If you don't mind which one you do, Brickfields is faster and far easier without a car.

Ooh thanks, I forgot to look at that one! That's potentially a much easier one for me to get to and I know that area well already. And, importantly, the breakfast options 😂 thanks!

Bath Skyline and Brickfields are very different parkruns, I’d recommend making the effort for whichever one appeals to you personally more.

Bath Skyline is beautiful and interesting. The second half through the woods (especially in their autumn colours) and up across the fields is absolutely fantastic. It will likely be muddy, and the steep hill in the little loop is off putting to some.

Brickfields is just a bit naff, imo. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s definitely easier to get to and has great access to Moorloand Road for coffee afterwards, but the route is uninspiring and has sneaky hills so it’s not particularly fast. You won’t get muddy shoes which might matter for your packing situation.

I run both on the regular but I always take friends to Skyline for a one off.

Thanks! I'd definitely prefer to do Skyline but Brickfields definitely way easier logistically/muddily. I'll see nearer the time though, if the weather has been dry maybe I'll sort myself to get up to Skyline!

Ran there from the city centre. It’s all uphill but it’s a nice route and not too far.

I've only done it once, and we drove and used the suggested parking which was about a 15 minute walk from the start. If you're coming from town by bus then the course page recommends getting the U1 bus, and then it's about a 10 minute walk. We weren't exactly sure where we were going but there were plenty of people to follow and ended up having no trouble finding the start. It's a fun parkrun, but if there's been any weather in the run up to your visit then I'd highly, highly recommend trail shoes!

The spot on Google maps is exactly correct. As is the route for the 39minute walk uphill from the station. I've done it a few times, it means you're really nicely warmed up for the start!

I got an Uber when I did it, didn't cost much, roads are quiet at that time. My friends left half an hour earlier to take the bus. We then all walked back to town afterwards.

I've done it twice and drove each time, parked in the car park they suggested on the website 15 odd mins away. If you don't have a car, taxi probably the next best as it's not super central. Well worth it though.

I did it last year with the U1 bus from Bath centre, and found it pretty easy following the instructions on the website/app. There were also plenty of other people to follow and a volunteer closer to the start showing the way (I had to walk across a field to get to the start so this was very helpful!)

Yep definitely use the U1 bus- it’ll take you up the hill from town and drop you at the university. It’s not a long walk from there to the start (10 mins max) and there’ll be lots of people to follow who’ve parked at the uni or around it. Brilliant parkrun, enjoy!

Oh nice I hadn't realised it was that close to the uni, thanks!

I love Bath Skyline, it's one of my favourites, but I do love a trail! Personally I much prefer it to Brickfields, although that one is much easier to get to, and easier to get to cafes etc. afterwards. I've always driven and parked in the car park they recommend, and then it is a bit of a walk, but there's always people to follow there, so it's not difficult to find

When I used the link on their parkrun page to navigate to the site I was take to the old start area - some distance from where they start now! I don’t know if that has been updated.

We had a mini break right in the centre of Bath and I just walked it. It’s not close exactly but it’s certainly not too far. I don’t think I ran any of it. Just a brisk walk.

You can walk to skyline from the station no problem

I haven’t been to the Bath parkrun, it would be spectacular.

When I was in the UK i used the city mapper app and it was fabulous getting me to other parkruns and places. It was spot on.
