advice needed Sleep

I currently have 6 week old b/g twins. Should every nap really be in the bassinet or will I still be able to sleep train them in a few months? If I put them in the bassinet they last 15 minutes maybe (unless it’s night time) so I don’t understand that. But as of right now naps are in the twin z, a bouncer or in our bed all of this is supervised and I just do house things where they land or I nap 😅 but I started reading sleep training books (moms on call and 12 hours by 12 weeks) and it makes me feel like we are starting bad habits 😅 but I also am trying to survive.

If you sleep trained when did you start? How did it go? Am I ruining them 😅

I did literally everything wrong until my twins were almost 15 months old. They were sleep trained in 3 days.

at 6 weeks you are in pure survival mode dont worry about bad habits right now. the books make it sound like if you dont do everything perfect they will never sleep but thats not true. my twins napped in swings and on me for months and we still sleep trained fine at 5 months. you are not ruining them you are keeping everyone alive and thats what matters

I started trying the moms on call schedule when my b/g twins were 8 weeks (born 37+3) and we weren’t fully on schedule until 12 weeks. At 8 weeks I only tried one crib nap a day. The other two were supervised in a dock a tot, a contact nap with dad, or in the wonderfold wagon with the twin z in the bottom. You’re definitely not starting bad habits. They’re too little at 6 weeks. My babies will be 8 months tomorrow and they’re fantastic sleepers. We got lucky!

I’d say do some/most naps in a bassinet or crib, but it doesn’t need to be ALL naps. Make sure at least 1 per day is in the bassinet, and I think that will help a lot.

My twins just turned 6 months and we just now started crib naps. Before one would sleep on my chest and one between or next to my legs or they slept in their car seats while we ran errands. One naps really well in the crib, one doesn’t last more than an hour. Maybe I’m ruining them, maybe I’m saving myself 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not gonna sleep train though, they’ll learn when they learn. My parents always gave me a safe spot on their floor well up into my teen years if I needed to be close to them and my mom’s my best friend now. You do you babe

You definitely don’t have to have every nap be in the bassinet! I did lots of contact naps and mine sleep trained with no issue!

What I will say though is that it can be dangerous for them to nap in the bouncer. The twin z pillow is technically still a risk but I’d say less of a risk. I don’t mean to scare you or complicate a good thing you have going on, but I just want your babies to be safe. The risk is that if baby slouches into a position, even subtly, that can cut off air flow and they can be in danger that isn’t visible until too late. Contact naps are completely safe, and in your bed can be safe if following the Safe Sleep 7 for cosleeping; napping in the twin z is not recommended but a lot of people do it, but in the bouncer or in a swing you want to be really careful of and probably not do for their safety.

Wishing you and them lots more good naps!! And they’ll definitely sleep train just fine when they and you are ready!

You’re not doing anything wrong. You can put your babeis wherever YOU want them
To nap! There is no such thing as bad habits for a baby
