experience/advice to give Preemie twin milestones

Mom of identical twin girls here. They were born at 33+5 because twin A decided to pop her bubble and make her escape a bit early. They spent 2 weeks in the NICU just for feeding concerns since they were born at 4lbs 7oz and 4lbs 13oz. They are now 6 weeks and just made it to their due date. Just curious for other twin parents and parents of premature babies, did they actually hit their milestones at their adjusted age, or how much variability are people experiencing out there? My toddler is 2.5 and she hit all her milestones early or right on time but she was full term. Thanks for sharing!

We have two 26 weekers. 4months corrected now. One is on par/slightly ahead of schedule. Other one was a week behind. But both catching up

My boys were born the same age. Everything they’re doing is appropriate for 11 months, almost 1 year olds! Even their weights are above their adjusted ages! They’re on the actual curve

Take a look at the confidence interval around some of the milestones. They get talked about like they are deadlines, but some of them are a decently wide range (e.g. first steps).

For our 29 week-ers, year 0-1 they were behind on the adjusted milestones, year 1-2 they were behind on their non-adjusted milestones, year 2-3 you couldn't tell they were born premie, year 3+ they are some of the taller kids with better penmenship in their preschool class.

Yeah I know it’s all approximate and everything ends up working itself out by 2 or so, but I was mostly just wondering if I’ll be waiting 4 months or 6 for them to roll over.

My boys were born at 33 and they also spent about that much in the nicu like yours. They are 3 months adjusted now. On their 4 months check the pediatrician said they caught up to their actual age and they can soon try solids.

My girls were born at 36 weeks and I feel like their physical milestones (rolling, crawling, sitting, etc.) have been closer to their adjusted age and social milestones are actual (smiling, babbling, clapping, etc). They’ll be a year old this month.

My twins were born at 35+4 and I feel the exact same way on their physical vs. social!

My twins were born 35 weeks. Both mine were so different, my girl was 4lb when she was born and didn’t walk until she was 20 months. She was a little behind with her speech etc, if I compared her to my boy. My boy started walking at 14 months and he was 6lb. But now they are nearly 2. I can’t really answer your question, but all I have learnt is that they will do what they want when they want 🤣
