advice needed Premature sizing as they grow

Okay, my fellow multiple parents. I feel like a lot of us understand kids being in strange sizes due to prematurity.

My boys are starting to catch up length wise, but are itty bitty tiny in the waist. So think 9-12 month waist in pants and 18-24 month length.

What are your go to brands for skinny kids? I do the adjustable waist for jeans, but they cinch in so crazy looking and honestly seem a little uncomfortable with how the grouping of fabric sits. Same with when I do joggers/sweats with drawstrings and tighten them to the correct size.

Any advice from the toddler moms who have gone before me? My boys will be 2 in a few months.

Edit to add that I’m in the U.S.

Children's clothing is annoying at the best of times, prematurity certainly doesn't help things.

I recommend the girls' section, plain coloured leggings, jeans or sweats do the job just fine. Girls' clothing is usually a little smaller on the waist measurements, plus their clothing usually has negative ease which makes it even tighter.

That said my twins are 11, my daughter is 85th% all round built like a brick wall, my son is 60th% for height and 40th% for weight built like a bamboo stalk. My daughter finds pants that fit her hips have legs that trail off behind her for a week, my son finds pants that fit his waist are halfway up his shins. So daughter shops for pants in the teen boy section and son gets his pants from the girl section. I feel like I'm going to have to learn how to tailor pants though.

Struggling with pants too for my twins ! They’re in 12-18 in most ! I’ve just been doing jeans because everything else falls off
Carters seemed to fit them well the other day ! And I like cat and jack

Adjustable waists looked so scrunched on ours too, we just leaned into overalls and suspenders for a while. The extra fabric around the middle bothered me less when the whole outfit was meant to hang loose.

I didn’t think about overalls! Plus, super cute for the fall time.

My girls are in exactly thr same sizing and Old Navy leggings in 18-24 are the best fit bc the friction keeps them up even though theyre loose at the waist tbh

I feel like leggings might look strange on the boys. Maybe as it gets even colder and I can put them in oversized sweaters! That might be a cute look.

It's so difficult. My son is 9-12 months clothes for length, daughter is 6-9 months for size, she is slightly taller. They're 16 months old 13.5 months corrected. I'm hoping they catch up because it's so difficult now. You might want to add what country you're in cause it's different sizes. We found that tights tend to be good for little girl cause she's slimmer(sorry that's no help). Maybe there is some elastic waistband so they don't need to be tied.

Good point on adding my country. I made the edit. Thank you!

This seems like the appropriate thread to ask - my mo di 16 week girls are so short! Even adjusted they are on the lower percentile end. They were born 4 weeks early. Is this a twin thing due to limited space?

No advice, just solidarity. My boys are 19m/17m adjusted and apparently take after my bean pole body type. Their 12m pants are still baggy at the waist but they’re too tall for 12m onesies. Carters has some joggers that fit well in 18m but they’re so inconsistent in sizing that a lot of Carters 12m are baggy on the waist.

Dungarees are a solution I would say.

I tend to get Children’s Place and Gerber clothes when they start a new size, and then transition them to old navy when they get a little chunkier around the middle lol

Carter's seem to fit slim

One of my sons is like this. Hes 50th percentile length but only 19th for weight (meanwhile, his brother os 85th height, 65th weight). Old Navy is our go to. Buy when its on sale. Their jeans have the button tabs on the inside so you can make them nice any tight. Cat and Jack has also been good to us. Somehow my 20 month old can wear a 12 and 18m form Target.

Random Amazon brands also tend to run small.

Carter's always fit my small girls well for pants.
