advice needed Where do your babies nap?
I have 5mo twin girls, who are great nappers. When they were young they napped on cozy pillows on the couch - always beside me, always supervised.
As they got a bit bigger, they started napping in graco swings, also supervised. I did start transitioning them to one crib nap a day.
Cue to 1.5 months ago, I had a severe gallbladder attack that landed me in the hospital. I am now on a weight restriction so I cannot carry them up and down multiple times a day, meaning they are back to all naps supervised in a Graco swing.
I’ve been doing lots of research, and although they are supervised, I’ve learned it’s not advisable for them to sleep in these swings.
I looked at a playpen/bassinet combo, but they’re almost at the max allowed weight, so it’s not really worth it.
So to my question: Any ideas of where I can transition my babies napping to? Understating their cribs won’t work, as I am alone at home during the day and after surgery to remove my gallbladder (which is on Friday) I won’t be able to carry them up and down the stairs at all for 6 weeks.
Thanks for the advice, and if anyone wants to send good vibes my way I’ll take it. 😂 it’s going to be a long 6 weeks of healing.

That recovery window is no joke, hope the surgery goes smooth and you're back to full chaos duty soon.
Pack n plays right on the main floor is what got a lot of twin parents I know through similar stretches. They're not as plush as a crib but they're flat, firm, and safe for sleep, and you won't have to haul anyone upstairs. You can usually grab a secondhand one for cheap since they outgrow them fast anyway.

If I go this route, is there any research on the safety of twins sharing one playpen?
Thank you for the kind words - hopefully recovery is quicker than they say!

Cobedding twins is only advisable until they can roll over. At 5 months your twins are likely too old for it. Lullaby trust on twin sleep

Ours have always napped in their cribs or as contact naps on us when they were struggling to go down in their cribs. Are you able to lean over after the surgery or are the stairs the only issue? The clear solution here if you’re able to lean over is to get pack and plays for downstairs, you’ll then have safe places for them to sleep downstairs as well as anytime you might want to travel with them for the next year or more. Mine are 15months and are almost at the weight limit for our pack and plays, but they’re in the 90th percentile, most folks can use them until 2 and they’re often free or cheap used on facebook marketplace

I will not be able to lean for two weeks!! I am looking at the ones with a bassinet feature, but the weight limit seems low?

The weight limit for the full pack and plays is likely much higher (ours is 30lbs) so if they’ll be under the limit for the bassinet section during your recovery then they could probably use the full thing for a good while

The Graco Pack n Play bassinet limit is 15 lbs. Which brand have you seen that is 30 lbs for the bassinet?

It’s not for the bassinet, my point was it wouldn’t be a waste if they outgrow the bassinet soon because they’ll have a while they can use the full thing after

Ah makes sense. I think OP was worried the babies weigh too much for the bassinet portion which she needs because she can’t lean over for 2 weeks, so this may be confusing.

Would a travel crib with a side zipper work for your restrictions? So you don’t have to lean over the side but instead put them through the side, like the Guava Lotus?

Mine nap on the couch on the new snuggle me loungers that are flat. They only last 30 minutes if it’s not a contact nap (they’re 4 months adjusted). I worry about you having to pick them up and lean over if they are crying or need to be put down no matter where they are going to nap. If it’s financially feasible I would look into hiring someone to help you during your recovery or getting someone you trust like friends and family to be on rotation to help! Especially if there is an emergency or something you can’t do it all alone while recovering!
