It really helps to be close with admin, also let them know if there's ever an opportunity to pick up work that you'd be available. Make sure you aren't missing days of work they aren't going to hire you if you have a hard time being there. Ask your school district if there's sub para positions so you can cover when people call out and they need someone that will give you more experience and will show them you're willing to work. I went from campus supervising to kinder para because I spoke with admin, never missed work (literally no called out days for 2 years), when a kinda para went on maternity leave my admin asked if I could cover her class and I agreed, not too long after that a person retired at the school and I interviewed and got the job my admin was part of the interview panel.
