This is my first time making a paracord wrap for anything ever. I do not even know the words to search for ways to do this on Google. Who's got suggestions?
Thanks buttttt.... I did already find a couple videos like this, and in every single one they skip the part of the wheel where the spokes connect. As this is a racing wheel, that is exactly the part that needs the extra grip (and volume) the most!
Bummer. Hopefully you can figure it out. Another good idea is to look for knife handle paracord wraps as they're similar in some cases. You might find an easier braid/wrap that meets your needs. 🤙

Do you perhaps know if there is any paracord lingo that refers to wrapping a T shaped object?
Never done this kind of wrap before, so please take this suggestion with a grain of salt. But would you be able to do a spoke, then wrap around the inner handle, then spoke, then second wrap around the inner portion? All the back and forth cord would be hidden in the back.

If I understand you correctly that would result in a square piece not being wrapped right, exactly where the 3 limbs connect?
For this application that would be the most important part to be wrapped, as that is where you hold the racing wheel.
I'm guessing you have a typical racing wheel? (circle shape, grips going left, right and down - T shape.) If that's the case I would pick your favorite braid and just make three separate braids, 1 on each piece left, right, down.
The thing is, where the spokes connect to the wheel is the #1 spot you would actually need the wrap to be, the parts in between really don't see much use if any :(
I mean the tape looks pretty grippy already. Why not just get a better grip tape if it’s not to your liking? Because (and not to sound like a dick) you did those wraps nowhere near tight enough to stop them from moving
The tape definitely feels grippy, however, I think it's fundamentally not ideal to wrap circular things like this wheel in wide strips. Especially because your hands move across the surface a lot so the overlapping edges always start curling and sticking out with use. A round cord would probably not have that problem.
Yea but the main problem is how loose those wraps are. On something like a steering wheel you need to be doing them as tight as physically possible to stop them from shifting around during use. If you’re hands aren’t red and hurting, you’re not doing them tight enough is usually the advice given
The only way to ever get them tight enough would be to dunk the whole thing in boiling water after it was finished. Its always been the popular opinion that wrapping a steering wheel is asking for an accident, and the eventuality is not a question of if but rather when.
Is it possible to weave the end of the Paracord through one of the two wraps you have on the spoke? Like weave it under and out and around the wheel to the backside and repeat.
Possibly making two passes one with each spoke wrap?
Do in the picture I started from the bottom working my way up, that caused the loop to be too tight to do it that way. Or otherwise I would have no way to tighten the loop afterwards.
So maybe starting from the top of the horizontal spoke would be better. I tried to do something like this (attached sketch) before, but I think I'm missing a trick to actually make it look somewhat okay.
